Help... We're heading to Texas for the Thanksgiving holiday, it's about a 2 1/2 hour flight and she has never been on a plane. I was wondering if any one had an advice on how to explane the process to her and what I should do to prepare her for it.

When my daughter wasn't much older than your child we moved overseas. She was very anxious and nervous about the impending flight. I didn't know quite what to do. Luckily, there was a pilot who belonged to our church. He agreed to talk to her. He simply asked 'What would you like to know?' She said 'What do you do if you run out of gas!' He said 'The plane has really big tanks and we make sure that they are full before we take off.' That was it. End of discussion. End of anxiety! It may be something as simple as asking your little one what they expect and to ask them if they have any questions. Maybe simply explain the 'plane process' FUN stuff (seats all to yourself, your own tray, a pocket for your books, the little windows) and then making sure you cover the 'plane process' REQUIRED stuff (low voices, listening, waiting to get on the plane, taxiing, sensations of take-off and landing, etc).If you're really into it, you can do a little enactment at home beforehand! Good luck! OH, don't forget that favorite blankie or stuffed animal and a few snacks!

The first time I flew with my little ones, I got books about airplanes and flying to read to them. It seemed to help them with knowing what to expect. I even found a book that was all about getting ready to fly, from packing to buckling your seatbelt on the plane. We took that one with us, to refer to on the plane. Hope that helps!
