I have two kids on is 8 mth and the other will be 2 next week.

They are BOTH sick, the 8mth old isn't as bad but my trouble is with my 2yr old.

She keeps vomiting and refuses to drink plain water or eat dry toast, she wants to eat and drink her normal stuff. Are there any other ways of dealing with this other than simply feeding her water and dry toast???? Im worried about her becoming dehydrated as this has been going on for a few days now.

Her feet have also become all blistered and there are a few that are going festy, I keep her feet clean and dry and she wears shoes when we go out so I don't know what has caused this, and don't know what to do about it.

I hope everything is going well, but everyone had similar advice for what I was going to write. Good luck!

Sounds like hand, foot and mouth to me. It is a viral thing, so basically you treat the symptoms. You don't want her dehydrated, so get her drinking something. Anything is better than nothing, so if she wants normal stuff, I'd give it to her. There is normally a lot of mouth pain involved with this virus, so lots of tylenol/motrin. If she doesn't seem to start improving after a couple of days, then I'd think about seeing a doc. Just try to keep them comfortable until it passes.

First of all she should be drinking Pedilyte to recharge her electrolytes if she is throwing up. They actually make that in a drink and popsicles. That will help end the vomiting if you can get her to drink it regularly. Secondly instead of toast see if she will eat crackers (saltines). Also, Ginger Ale is really great for upset tummies... so maybe she would think that Pedilyte and crackers are "normal".

thanks all for your help the kids are better it was just a tummy bug that has since been passeds on to me and now we are nursing daddy who came home from a work trip just in time to catch it. But other than that all is better and the blisters have cleared as soon as she got over the fever.

I'm hoping you spent the night in emerg. and the kids are doing much better.

The best fluid is good old water to start. Only stipulation is I wouldn't make it too cold.

As they improve, try some watered juice or maybe even a little ginger ale. Again not too cold. Let us know how they're doing.

You should definitely have your daughter seen by a doctor. But in the meantime, any type of fluid except red is fine. Your main concern is to keep her hydrated. Stay away from milk as well because if she's running a fever, it can curdle in her stomach and make the vomiting even worse. Good luck and God bless!

Get to your doctor now! Young children can dehydrate very quickly. I 'm thinking you need to get to hospital. Do you have one close by with a pediatrics unit ?As both children are I'll I 'm thinking a contagious condition. Maybe this is a reason. Your health care needs revision. Where I live I would not even think twice and would have ready access to after hours clinic or hospital. No cost involved either. Gods luck. Hope the kids will be feeling better soon.

Pedialytle popsicles. If she likes juice, let her keep drinking it. Really anything she keeps pushing down, no matter how much she throws up, as long as she keeps pushing a liquid, don't worry too much. Juice restores electrolytes as well. If your 2 year old gets a strong smell to their urine, you know your daughter is not getting enough liquid and is dehydrated and will need to go into doctor right away.

Pedialyte also makes popsicles wich are sometimes easier to get a toddler to take when they don't want to drink.

If you haven't already, call your doctor. It's always good to communicate with a doctor when little kids are sick and you are worried. When my first two were puking sick, I would call to be sure I was watching for the right warning signs and doing the right things with medicine and fluids. The doctors and nurses are there to answer your questions.

My doctor always recommends watered down gatorade over water as it will restore her electralites much like pedialite does, only it's cheaper and tastes better. If she has a fever that could account for the blisters, apparently fever blisters can happen anywhere on the body, but usually in places where sweat can build up, clean with salty water & use an antibacterial cream. I agree with the other mums too, take them to the doctors.

Hi Belinda, I remember the days when my daughters were that age and sick. If you have not done so yet do call your DR. It does sound like Fifths Disease, but just to be on the safe side you would be wise to make sure. Be sure to nap when your children nap these next few days. The dust bunnies will wait for you I promise.

Go see a doctor, and get some pedialite. That will help her stay hydrated, but the doctor will be able to tell you more.

If it is hand-foot-mouth disease there is nothing that can be done except giving tylenol or ibuprofen for the fever and pain. My daughter recently had it and it will last about a week and go away on it own. But, odds are if your 8 month old has not gotten it yet then it is not hand-foot-mouth disease because it is highly contagious.

If it is hand and foot it is contagous so get her in to the Dr. as soon as possible. Also a good way to remember the diet for when kids are sick is BRAT B-Bannannas, R-Rice, A-Apple (I usually use apple sauce), T-toast. I hope they get feeling better quickly. Be sure to get some rest yourself when you can, take care of the kiddos but find something else to let slid for now.

Sounds like Hoof and Mouth desies also called Fifths Desies. She needs medication to get better. Bannana, Rice, Apple, Toast is the diet that we have used for so long. But The Dr. is the best bet right now. If she wants to drink liquids other than milk as long as it isn't a red color. Give her pedialite or sports drinks the rule about no red is so that you know it isn't blood when she gets sick.
