How can I teach my children about God?

I am a single mom of 3. They are 12, 9, and 2. I work every weekend, which is a blessing because I get to spend time with the kids through the week. I go to school once a week on Wednesday nights. My kids know about God, but since I am unable to take them to church, how do I teach them his principles. How to I teach them God's word about right and wrong and about peace and humility? I thought about a home Bible study but have no idea where to start or how even to go about it. Does anyone have any experience with these issues and/or suggestions? Prayers for me and my family would be nice too. thanks

I had bought a child niv study bible. Where it would be like a regular bible but easy to understand. At the end of a chapter there was a place with questions to think about or talk about.A book of bible stories are good ,Noah and the ark, and so on. Always tell them that God loves to hear from them so prayer is great ,at meal time when they have a test at school Ask God to help them to remember what they studied and ask Him to give them knowledge and the ability to do well on the test.I started praying that with my oldest daughter when she was in middle school and she is graduateing from college in 2 weeks. She always kept a A average and been on the deans list. God wants to hear everything from you . And yes if you do the studing he will help you get a good grade. Its all in believing and having faith.

Telling your childred about the principles is the easy part. Practising them ourselves is the hard part. Our childrens eyes and ears are focus on their parents starting at a young age. You are their teacher! They will know, from what you know. Remain teachable. Luv & God Bless

Hi Tanya.
You have faith in the Lord and you want your Children to have the same beliefs and values. The bible study is a really good idea. The older kids might find this boring (I know I did when I was a teenager. Which is sad, but teens and kids get bored easily.) So you can introduce the bible to them, maybe just a chapter a night to keep their attention.
What you need to tell your kids is that God is ALWAYS there. Not just during church hours. We can talk to him, I do all the time. I feel such a huge bond with him. Tell your kids that they can ask him anything (with faith) at any time in the day. He answers prayers. Even small ones like "Lord, I'm in a rush can you please lead me to my keys" God is awesome he doesn't mind helping us out in little day to day situations. He's there and he loves to be called upon. Tell them that if they ever feel lonely that they can have a conversation with God. Of course God wont answer in words, but he will be listening and be so happy to hear from them.
Basically my points are that you you can teach ur children a very intimate personal relationship with God.

There are some great resources on-line, or you could get a book...

Family devotions at breakfast is a great way to start, you could even do family worship afterwards... You can find tons of kids devotional books. We just go Truth and Grace Memory books, and I am loving them! It has Scriptures for them to memorize along with facts about God, and songs and such.

Another thing you could do is just find a time each day to read the Bible together. We do it before bed time (although I don't think that is the best time).

We also do a Bible study after school. I usually draw up my own lessons, but there are tons of online places where you can get free Bible lessons for kids...

Applesauce kids is a really good one:

You have been given some great ideas, and may I add one suggestion? Have you considered finding a local church that may have a bus ministry? If you find one then your children would be able to go to church by being picked up and dropped off by the church bus. Then you could use what they learned that day at church as your discussion/Bible study for Sunday evening. Granted, they would be going to church without you but they would be meeting some fellow Christians of their own age and learning from other men and women of God besides yourself. Who knows, maybe your older ones could start leading Bible studies at home based on what they are learning and teach you more in the mean time. I am always amazed at how much my kids teach me in this regard. Hope this helps! I am praying for you and your family.

Integrate God into your routine. Find a good Children's bible that is age appropriate for each of them and have the ones that are old enough read it. Just before bedtime every night you can read the bible/children's bible and discuss what they learned from what was read. Finally, and most importantly, pray together! If you pray together as a family each night they will learn how to pray and develop their own relationship with God as they learn to be in prayer throughout the day on their own. I also recommend watching the "Veggie Tales" movies as they are great at educating kids about God in a fun way. Eat meals together and pray and give thanks to God before you eat. It is amazing what our kids learn about God just by the example that we set for them. If you demonstrate that you are passionate about God, then they will in turn learn the same. I will be praying for you!
