I'm a foreigner from a moderate family with two grown daughters of my own, the step mother to this girl in her 16 she is a good girl, but aparently she never had been taught how keep her bedroom clean and ordered and help to keep clean the rest of the house. Times when she comes to visit she leaves food in the bedroom, wet towels in the hamper, dirt glasses in the kitchen. I had been told more than twice, her mother isa nasty housekeer. She'll come to live permanently with us. I'm convinced that order and cleanest is important to develop as an important tool to live. I don't know if these is the most to all kids here in US.

A clean heart is a devotional and helps get to the root of not organizing and keeping things tidy while helping you organize. I recommend it to everyone.

How awesome of you to teach this to your daughters!

Mari,

Welcome to America....No it's not a normal in general thing with American kids!! It's all in the way the were parented if her mom lives like a pig then her children are more likely to live like pigs...If she come to live with you full time you just have to try and retrain her...Just let her know what the rules of the house are and the make sure that you follow through with the punishment for the offence...Just be prepared for the fight and the nasty comments of "your not my mom and you can't tell me what to do!!!" Just make sure that you and your husband are on the same page when it comes to punishing her or you will have her trying to turn the two of you against each other...Good luck and let us know how it goes

When she comes to live permanently, show her the ropes and how she is to live in your home. She can learn and she will definitely benefit from it - I'm sure she will be apprehensive at first, but one day she will look back and be extremely grateful for the organization and home respect you will teach to her. It's important to us Americans too! :)
