Holly, six weeks? I'm sorry, my mind is mushy right this moment, but do you need more craft ideas?

they could make a scroll, tied with string, with their map to treasure (for example, each island on the way to the X marks the spot (Jesus and Heaven, our real treasure) could be named after a step required to become a child of God.

They can make spyglasses out of paper. Easy to roll and glue then they could decorate and keep a "weather eye" out for the coming of Jesus.

You could also always have "traditional" crafts with a pirate theme---doorknob hangers, paper "loot" boxes or bags (put slips of Bible verses inside, you could print in shape of coins and they could cut them out), etc.

Our sword is the word of God, and every pirate needs a sword. You could figure out a way to tie that into a craft by making them out of paperboard or something and put a scripture verse on them.

If you're doing the crafts though, depending on how old the kids are, you might want them to do the crafts. If they are really young you could have them close to being finished. But there are links online to show you how to make paper eye patches, etc. If they are older (I would say seven or above), definitely let them cut their bandanas, etc. because they would be more into it and more into wearing it if they do it themselves.

If I find more, will let you know.

Holly, what kinds of Bible Stories are tying in?? I can think of a few snack ideas that go with Pirates and if I knew your Bible stories, I could tie them together.

What about a treasure hunt? The 6-8 year olds could be given a map with directions to follow to get to the treasure and the 9-11 year olds could be given a list of clues to follow instead of the pictorals... or if you make "Pirate Ship Teams", you could do either one for everyone. I have been looking through my "Ultimate Bible Fun Book," but nothing yet that deals with a pirate theme.. or anything that could be modified, but I will keep looking, it is a thick book! Since Rebekah mentioned the movie though, I am sure you could go to the veggie tales website and they probably have activities to print off and other kid stuff too!

During the six weeks if you wanted the kids to work towards something for all 6 weeks, you could give out coins that they can spend in a loot store at the end of 6 weeks. Gold coins are cheap at Oriental Trading. All you need are just some prize stuff to put in the store.

Ways they can earn them are memorizing scriptures, review questions, winning a game, bringing their Bible, or make it real hard and they get a lot of coins for saying every memory verse from each week!

And to answer your question, the kids would love making their own eye patch! That's really cool. Could even have them make their own pirate vest too. :)

Decorate the room with the theme too... make a dock for a boat, or make some palm trees, hang parrots from the ceiling, make them feel like they are really on an island or a boat, etc.

You can have the kids make treasure chests for a craft too - easy out of popsicle sticks and a small box.

Or you can have ONE big treasure chest that has the theme verse in it to memorize. Put a bunch of balls or gold coins in the chest and have the kids go searching for the memory verse (better yet since they are 6-12 y/o, use cards and put one word of each verse on it, review the verse before they search for the cards and then have them put it together - can do teams and race to see who can get it done fastest).

Holly,

I'm sure that they would remember the leason more if they were involved in the creating thier own outfits!! I have found that with my childrens church class the more involved in the leason they are the better they retain what they have learned...Good luck and God bless you for being a leader for the children of God!!!
