I was on another (non-religious) groups page called "Moms that need to vent" And I was venting about how agnostic and atheist people celebrate Christmas. I said that if you don't believe Christ is your savior, you shouldn't wish people a Merry Christmas. And I was amazed at the back lash. I find it weird that people get so fired up about faith, when they claim not to have any.

I agree with you that it doesn't make sense that people who don't believe in Christ celebrate Christmas since his name is clearly included in the celebratory greeting Merry Christmas and in the holiday. Everyone has a right to their opinion and to celebrate Christmas but then they should also understand that by celebrating the Santa part they are missing the true purpose and meaning of Christmas

I was on that thread and yes some moms were being rude but i think what most were saying was Some people May Celebrate Chrismtas but they dont celebrate Jesus they just do the Santa and presents and being together with family! LIke some have already said some things about Christmas are other religious holidays added!

Religion is hard to speak of when it should not be. The fact of it is that people are scared of the unknown and so they make sure they dont claim anything.

It's unbelievably everywhere you go! it just seems that those that did back lash you are lost. And are still confused about it all, which only leaves one thing. For them to just go with the flow. I am glad you on the other hand do have a sense of purpose and reality check.

Christmas is actually pagan, it is believed that Jesus was born around the feast of sukkot, (either September or October), each person should decide in his/her own heart what to do but be fully persuaded, we don't celebrate Christmas we have enjoyed celebrating Biblical feasts, they are rich in meaning and symbolism.

I have the same issue with people who have no interest in God but want to get married in church or have their baby christened.

Erin, don't find it weird, find it wonderful! Jesus has been put in these people's hearts somewhere along the line, and He is coming out! With the time of the Lord's return close, these people are going to start putting two and two together and finding Jesus! Pray for them, and ask the Lord's blessings on them.

God bless YOU, sweetie!

Christmas is actually a combination of Pegan and Christian holidays. It's origins are in fact pegan. When they were trying to chose the date to celebrate Christ's birth (because we don't really know when it was) they set it on the same day that is designated by the pegans for the birth of one of their false gods. As well as the winter solstice. So it really isn't just a Christian holiday. They just leave Christ out of it and focus on santa.

To be quite honest I know several Christians who refuse to celebrate Christmas because of it's pegan origins, and because it isn't truly the date of Christ's birth.

Religion is a touchy subject whether you believe or don't believe.
