I have started reading the King James bible.I feel good reading it, i enjoy reading. The thing is, i am having trouble understanding and reading it. I end up reading a verse 2 or 3 times and end up scratching my head. I almost feel bad that i having trouble, that it should just click with me. When i am in church and the pastor reads a verse he has a story to go with it that fits and i understand how a verse fit in my real life/what it means. Is there a bible that is "new to reading the bible friendly"?? lol. I know I ask a lot of questions on here ,i just don't know a lot about the bible.

I have just started reading the Bible in the past few years. I was raised in the catholic church so everything was in our prayer books, no need to read the BIBLE. About 5+ years ago I asked Jesus into my heart to be my personal Savior. My husband encourged me to start reading the Bible. I had a study Bible that there was no way I could understand it. Then I went to the NIV Bible because that is what the church we were attending was using.

My next one was "The Expositor's New Testament" King James version. After starting to read and study this Bible I KNEW that I NEEDED "The Expositor's Study Bible". What is unique about this Bible is the Scripture is followed by notes to describe what the word or phrase means. It is so simple to understand that a child of 8 can understand it. At this time over a half million copies have been sold in the past 6 years. Go to www.jsm.org to check it out for yourself.

read the New King James version. It is so much easier to understand. Stay away from The Message Bible as it really distorts the translation.

I like the good news bible the beginning of each book gives a little reference to what is going on and where it takes place. also in plain english. It was given to my daughter during Sunday school and even my younger kids can understand the stories.

My favorite is the NASB (New American Standard Bible). It's in modern English, so easier to understand and is very accurately translated from the original texts (Greek and Hebrew). Others really enjoy the NIV. I also have one of these and it is a very good translation as well.

There is an easier translation and it is the ESV ( English Standard Version) it helps a lot the principles from 1600 KJV are there but the words are so a 6th grader could understand them. Its also based on the NASB its also a good translation, the pastor at my church currently uses the ESV. It's the translation that helped him get through seminary we're talking about a man who didn't read period before the lord called him to do HIS work. IT helps him and it helps alot of new believers to understand due to the fact it is in the modern day wording without all the Thee, Thou, and long run on words

The Message!!!! Its so easy to understand!! Its like reading a story in everyday English. My favorite is The Message Pause Remix it has loittle breaks where you can apply it to life, or do a little devotional. It really helps make you think about what you just read. And also for me, allows me to understand it even better!

Try the NKJV....also a parallel Bible with the KJV and another version would help. It is okay that you are having trouble with reading the KJV. Most people do and to me it just helps me study it a little bit more. It sticks with me a lot better than just reading through. :) Have a great day!

Our church uses the New American Version. I was a bit skeptical being raised Baptist, but my Pastor sat down with me and explained that laid out side by side they were the same .... just used in today's language. Do a search on Barnes & Noble, I think you may be able to preview it and there are many "online" versions.

I love reading the Message Bible and the New Living Testament Bible. Both of them put words down to our terms. Also if you want to understand a verse better you can always google the verse. I have had to do it several times.

I am a new Christian myself and I'm reading the NIV version. Don't ask me what NIV stands for, however it's the same one my pastor uses and it's very easy to understand modern version that is. I would also recomend reading the new testiment which is after pslams (half way through the bible) Read "Mark, Luke, John, and then Mathew." These are the same story writen by diffrent people with diffrent perspectives but it's a great place to start. Again I am new as well. GOOD LUCK! All the gifts of falling in love with God and more then I could have ever asked for!

The NIV, Amplified or New Living all all good Bibles that breaks down the King James... You can also find Bibles that have King James on one side and NIV or Amplified on the other side and that helps me at Church to be able to have both.

Although I believe the KJV is the closest translation the the original bible, It's never wrong to have a few different versions to help you understand. My pastor reads out of New American Standard and I have both King James Version and New Living Translation. I really like the New Living Translation. If you are looking for something that is just straight to the point, try the Message Bible as a companion to your reading.

The Trinity is the singular name for God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are three persons in one.

Just as I am a daughter, a mother, and a sister, but still one singular person

God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all one

Hi Summer. I have found that reading the New International Version (NIV) is a lot easier for me to understand. It is also one of the better translations because it isn't written in "story" form. I also like the NIV Life Application Bible because it has some comments about indivual passages and shows how to apply it to our lives today. Hope this helps... :-)

might try the King James study Bible. It has the regular verses on top and references it in todays language on the bottom. But i would still compare it to the regular King James Version. I like KJV because if you read others like the NIV and some others you will find that they leave some verses out. It just seems like it is "tampered" with to me. Good luck

I have The Inspirational Study Bible by Max Lucado it is New King James Version but it is completely in plain english. I absolutey love it. It's a study bible so it helps you study & understand the different chapters in the bible. What I like the most is the Life Lessons section, it gives you a break down of what was happening in that passage & applies it to real life.

It sounds like that you are a fairly new Christain. The bible tells us that just as babies start with milk so must we as new Christains. Basically start with some of the more basic chapters of the bible. 1 Corinthains is a book to begin with. I know that the KJV can seem difficult, basically because we do not talk that way today, but it will make sense to you, in Gods time. When my husband was first saved he to had the same issues that you are having, I had him read the KJV then he read from the NIV. In doing this it helped him to understand that language that is being use. I personally feel that some of the more modern versions of the bible leave alot out, which is why I love the KJV. But try going back and forth between the KJV & the NIV and see if this helps. Remember to always pray before you begin your bible readings for the day, you'll be amazed at how God will increase your understanding. My prayers are with you, God bless

Of all the translations I read, I love the Amplified version the best. It is very thorough, as it elaborates upon the tenses and implications from the original language. I would HIGHLY recommend this translation to anyone who has trouble understanding the "old world" stlye of writing, it helps me tremendously, and it isn't "cheap" like some "basic english" ans "modern" type translations tend to be...on the contrary, it is abuntantly rich. I'd say it is perfect for the new believer :)

New International Version,(NIV),that I enjoy. You can also purchase a "parallel" Bible that can give you up to four different translations including the NIV & King James. I enjoy mine when I get "stumped" on something. Hope this helps sis! =)

Hi Summer,

Before you make a trip to the Christian Book store check out www.biblegateway.com you can look up a verse in lots of different versions (I reccomend NIV), and see which version is easier for you to understand. This will save you a lot of time and work. I wish you all the best in your journey.

I bought my girls NKJV for their first bibles. It is easier to read. They also have NIV and NLT now. I read them too. I think that your best bet is to do as someone else suggested and buy a bible with your favorite verse written in a way that you could not only understand but enjoy reading because reading the Bible should be a joy. I also think that there are many good study bibles out there. But I believe that we get out of our bible reading what we put into it. Some study bibles can put what they think is the meaning and you don't always know where it came from. Also if you are always reading what someone else thinks the meaning is then you aren't deciding what YOU think that it means so be careful there too.

Happy reading and enjoy your studies.

If you'd like accuracy and easy to understand, go for the English Standard Version. It's a revision of the KJV into modern day English.
The NIV and NLT aren't bad either.
The Message is a paraphrase of the Bible.
Talk to God and ask Him.

Oh, and if you have any questions, feel free to send them my way. I love to talk about The Bible. I'm in a New Testament class right now and I'm learning so much :)

I really like the American Standard Version and the New International. You can also get one that has King James on one page and the same page in another version on the next- which is very handy. I think we have about 10 or 12- so is one doesn't click- we can look for clarity. There are also a lot of good sites online. (just becareful to only get the translation and not someone else's thoughts- you need to read the word and form your own understanding first and when you have a question you can't answer for yourself- ask someone whose core beliefs you share and whose opinion you value. And I am SO glad you are reading and trying to understand the word. Good for you and God Bless you. I will pray for your understanding. The only stupid question is the one that you don't ask.
