Hey, just feeling a little discouraged. My husband was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis bout a year ago. He is on 3 different types of drugs and they dont seem to be working. The next stage would be surgery to remove the bowel and he would have to wear a bag. This prospect is daunting for a blokey bloke of 34 yrs. He has been suffering bouts of depression. I'm really unsure of help to help and support him through it. Is there anyone else out there that may be able to shed some light or has some experience with ulcerative colitis??? Thanks

therr id deffinently HOPE!!!! My brother has this. He was told he couldnt leave the hospitel and if the drugs didnt work he would have to have his bowel removed. This broke his heart because he is a young adventurous man. the drugs didnt work so he stoped them, left the hospitel and reseved lots of healing prayer. He went on a VERY stricked Alkiline diet and now he is fit and strong again. If he strays to far from his diet it starts to come back but when hes on it its like he dosnt even have it.

Hi, Kim, this is an old post, but I saw your response and wanted to chime in. I had to go look up UC, and find the symptoms to be similar to what I suffered with celiac sprue. It's strange that the symptoms can be so dramatically different, from person-to-person. Mine was terribly severe. I was a mail carrier when the sprue hit. I was working part time as a city carrier, and part time as a rural carrier. I must admit, the city route was better, as I could find a restroom quicker than out in the country. The down side is, it was a small town, and running through a restaurant trying to get to the restroom in time with acquaintances watching is a LITTLE humbling. I wasn't diagnosed for about 2 years. I would weigh 94 pounds in the morning and look like a little starving child, to bloating up to where my friends didn't recognize me. I slept on the floor by the bathroom on a heat run in winter for warmth. So I understand your husband's anxieties.

Satan is very good at side-tracking Christians, especially when they are actively ministering. I pray ministering angels to hold your husband up, and warring angels to chase Satan out of your church and back to hell. I pray the Holy Spirit comfort and encourage you both.

God bless, honey

Hi Michelle,
I am just reading this, and am wondering how your husband is doing. My heart goes out to you. My husband was just diagnosed with UC. He has been in an active flare for over a year, and isn't responding to meds. He is pastoring a new church. We think we have to give it up. We are worried, and feel like we have no where to go. I would love to here how you are doing. I am learning what a difficult journey this is. You are in my prayers

Michelle,  I am sorry to hear about your husband.  I have struggled with what doctors call IBS, irritable bowel syndrome.  I have a friend who had colitis and had part of her lower intestine removed, she recoverd well and appears to be doing fine.  I am not a doctor but have used natural oils, herbs and nutrition over the past five years to help with the ibs and stomach issues.  I am about to begin the master cleanse tommorrow, i have heard of it curing/ helping many ailments from heart problems to digestive problems.  I will know what it is like and what it helped in 10 days i should be finishing.  Do a search on google for more info or go to mastercleanse.org  I am hoping it helps with stomach pain, knee pain, allergies and recent weight gain.  I will pray for your husband while on my fast/cleanse.  Blessings to you, Gina

Michelle, my heart can break for you. My husband became ill 4 years ago at the age of 27. He doesn't have the same as your husband, but was finally diagnosed a year ago with chronic pancreatitis. We were missionaries in South Africa when he got sick and we had to return to Canada "or he would die" as the doctors there said. After being back in Canada we not only had to adjust to life here (as did our kids who had never lived in Canada), but adjust to having a once super energetic husband to one who could barely get out of bed and was in constant pain. After finally recieving a diagnosis last year, he is on strong pain killers continuosly, enzymes, anti-anxiety meds (help sleep), acid reducers, and laxatives. All in all a walking medicine cabinet! All that just so he can be up with me and the kids for "most" of the day. He usually has 1-2 naps a day.

It is definately a big adjustment and so I will try to pray for your family. Try to remember the upsides. My hubby may not work, but he sees his kids alot and knows them. He is always around, so we have time to talk. With 4 kids we don't get out often, but we are always together in the evenings.

I think the biggest thing in supporting him that I have learned is to try and make him still feel needed. My hubby struggles "do". And while he can't do all the things he used to, he is definately still needed and wanted in our family. It can be hard when there are days when you "do it all", and then have to back off and let him be in control again. I have had much practice with that--not all successful!! God bless you as you go down this adverturous road with him

My husband (37) as diagnosed with ulcerative colitis several years ago.  He has to take medicine daily and NOPE NO CURE.  His is really proctitis (lowest part of intestine) but when he has flair ups it is awful.  He is constantly running to the bathroom and gets very VERY discouraged.  He knows that he needs to stay active - but because of the illness he has fallen out of a once active routine.  The medicated enemas really help with flair ups.  It is really a life altering illness but - hopeful our men can figure out how to live life to the fullest.

Shelly, thanks for your kind thoughts.  Prayer would be awesome.  Thank you.  My husband grew up in  a christian home (parents were pastors) but has never really had that break through of the reality of Jesus for his own life.  Have a great week xx
