What is the difference between Quaker instant oats and Gerber oatmeal single grain cereal? Is it okay to use the instant oats for baby's first solid food?

You could also make a porridge from maize/corn meal - I cook mine with milk, serve with 'n small nob of butter, little sugar and cold milk and the boys loved it from the start. Also low allergy risk.

My daughter was on Hypoallergenic formula the first 9 mo b/c of severve allergies and GER. You might want to try rice cereal as a first solid, then you can slowly add small amounts of other solids to the rice cereal once you know how your baby tolerates it. Good luck!!

Yes, the only difference is the fineness of texture, but some babies do not handle even baby oat cereals well. Just be aware. Both of mine had sensitivity to oat cereal- gave them severe diaper rash and we didn't introduce it again until they were over 2 years old.
Usually pediatricians recommend using Rice cereal as the first cereal to introduce because it is the easiest to digest and least likely to produce an allergic reaction.
No problems now tho'

The only visible difference is that the Gerber cereal is really fine. I'm sure if you put Quaker instant oats in the food processor you'd get the same looking result. My daughter, who is 12 months old, LOVES Quaker instant oatmeal; it's one of the only solid foods she really enjoys. As for a first solid food, depending on what age you're planning on feeding your baby solilds, I'd check with your pediatrician to see if your baby is old enough to digest Quaker oats.

Gerber oatmeal cereal is made from oat flour, quaker instant oats are made from whole oats. The texture of the Gerber oatmeal cereal is much finer and softer-easier for babies' new digestive systems to handle. Instant oats are coarser and may give them tummy trouble.
