Hello ladies, I hope everyone is doing well today :)

I have a slight concern about my son's reaction to infant cereal. I recently started him on solid foods and noticed that when I fed him rice cereal his skin on his face got very irritated. After a couple days of no cereal and some Aveeno baby lotion, the irritation would disappear. I tried giving him rice cereal mixed with my breastmilk twice (for 3 days) and this happened both times. I then waited for it to clear up again and tried giving him oatmeal cereal and the same thing happened. Has anyone had a similar experience at all? He does fine with other baby food, its always the cereal that causes the rash on his face. He has no other symptoms, no sign of any discomfort or any other health concerns. I was wondering if anyone knew what might be causing this and also if anyone knew if it was all right to just feed him gerber fruits, veggies and meats without any cereal until he can start eating finger foods. I am a first time mom and I just want to make sure that I am giving him a healthy diet! Thanks so much!

I would also say it is apart of alergies, my daughter was allergic to many things and so are both my God children. and rash is the outward showing of an allergy, i would wait one month between trying again. if that is the reaction to the rice cereal try a different brand. sometimes i found the off brand would cause my daughters reaction worse then the brand names... you don't want to cause an allergy reaction to many times because your child can become more allergic then before.

i hope this helps a little bit. good luck

Kristen,

Your baby is adorable!  I would say call the md office.  I know that my baby has some food allergies and one of the warning signs is rash.   They should be able to help you figure out if you should stop giving it to him or suggest something else.  Better safe than sorry I always say!
