questionable music

Kids are going to listen to music that we deem as being inappropiate. Since your son is only 8, you as the parent decides what he listens to. My son loves rap and I can appreciate some of it (not all). When he was that age I allowed him to buy rap, but only those that was edited. All the bad words were taken out. Now that he is a teenager and a honor student, he does listen to unedited rap. But I know that my son has his head on straight and I don't worry so much about him being influenced by it. It is the parent who has to teach their kids about being respectful, about God. I have also introduced my son to christian rap, some he like some he don't, but it's a start. I don't believe that any type of music will cause him to be a devil worshiper; they use to say that years ago. what you have to focus on is being the best parent you can possibly be. I believe kids will always come back to what their parents installed in them. Good Luck and God Bless

I will be praying for Carson. My son is only 8. Now he does like rock but he listens to the soft rock that I listened to when I was a child. and I still like it. He is not in too rap or heavy metal that much which I am glad at least for now. My husband and I listen to christian contempary music which is upbeat. He my like it or not. My husband and I will not allow Heavy metal or hard rock in this house. I do listen to country, I love the oldies, classical. My son loves the christian music we listen too he dances around the house when we have it on. So we are bless. My husband and my son are into games and there is hard rock and heavy metal and new age stuff on the games and it is horrible. When you truely listen to the words it does not glorify God. I heard some music played backwords and you can hear the demands on it it is horrible. But even some christian rock you have to be careful with. But I agree with what everyone is saying the hard rock, heavy metal and some rock is enough to give you the creeps. I hope he comes around. When I was pregnant with my son I would rock my self in with the music and we play alot of christian music and when he was born and growing up he has learned to appreciate the different music and loves it. Maybe try and get him some christian rock rap and etc. He may grow into it. I have friends at my church and that is all their children can listen too. Their kids love it. I have some good christian music that people gave me and I enjoy it. Where do you live. I live in West Reading PA. I do not have a way to burn cd or put them on cassett but if you live near me maybe we could get together and I could show you what I have and give you ideas. I would recommend looking for some Christian rap. I worked with a high schooler who loved to listen to eminem(sp?) I couldn't stand it. But one of the guys from my church listened to hard core Christian music (and is now a Christian musician) and he burned a CD for me with some heavy Christian stuff. They guy at work actually thought it was Eminem. Sounds the same, just Christian lyrics. People like Petra, and CJ.

Hi Melissa, Our daughters are 21 and 25. But i do remember the days when we had the Music issues. After groundings, loss of allowance, breaking a few c.d. that broke the rules.(the rules were VERY CLEAR) I decided on a new approach. I started to Pray about what I could do to stop this. God Honored that Prayer (I often wondered if I would have had to break any c.d.s if I had Prayed first.) We had at that time before the Prayers, only one Christian Music Station in our area, after the Prayers we had 3 2 the girls would listen to and one for the older folks. Another thing I did that I think helped even more than the Christian Radio Stations was to sit down and talk to our girls, about the content of the music. and even going so far as to read the words of some of the songs. The girls were grossed out that I would do that. But I asked them how they would feel if their dad listened to the music and sang the songs with the c.d. They thought it would be disrespectful to both them and their dad. I then asked them why it was not o.k. for them to listen to something that disrespectful to them and their dad, but o.k. to listen to something that was disrespectful to God. I am not saying it was an instant change, but I did see after a month or so that I was breaking fewer and fewer c.d.s. Yes May be our rule was not strick enough in the first place but once we were in the mess We felt it was very important to follow the Verse in Ephesians 6:1-4 concerning Children and Parents:

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2“Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3“that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”a

4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

If you go to klove.com or air1.com you will find a lot of great Christian Music that Glorifies the Lord and that our teens are willing to listen. Because lets face it most teens do not want to listen to the same music their parents listen to. However LOL the joke is on satan because these stations and many other great Christian radio stations through out the u.s. and other countries do glorify The Lord are both mom, dad, and children can and do listen to. Yes I also will be Praying for your son and his music choices. They do make a difference.

When my step son lived at home, we had to ban some music he listened to as it was inappropriate. He tried to reason it & everything. Then he started listen to "Christian Metal" and we told him that if you can't make out that they are glorify God, the God get no glory in it. We we're very strict with music, movies, TV everything really. My step son, continued to listen to such music, what bad shows & movies (all when not around us) ultimately he has turned his back on the Lord & now lives with a girl, takes drugs, smokes & drinks. We continue to pray that he will come back to Christ. I will be praying for Carson.
