I started reading the book thinking it was a godly christian book and I was highly intrigued by the title. In the beginning, it tore apart my entire view on christianity and left me wondering so many things and curious how any of it could be true...I became more and more confused and could not allow myself to believe what I was reading! "God" supposedly is having a conversation with a regular man, answering his questions via through the mans writing(the man claims to have no control over what is being written..)"God" supposedly says there is no reason to read the Bible b/c how accurate could those people from 2,00 years ago be compared to the direct source right then and there? At another point, "God" says that there is no need to pray b/c God wont answer our prayers, it is us as humans who are capable to answer our own prayers and that "God" is just there for the show...Now, at this point in the book, the Holy Spirit was definitely telling me this was false information and I remember in the Bible where Jesus clearly said to look out for this kind of thing...so I researched it, and in shock came to this site... http://www.motivationbygrace.org/forums/...
The fact that this man is claiming to have a conversation with God, and is actually, I think, trying to play the role of God, seeing how many lives he can control and destroy with lives in the grips of his hands--is just so distorted and sickening! This book is on Oprahs list of bestsellers, not to mention a worldwide bestseller! People are buying into what this man is saying that God is saying...and if you read your bible you will see that everything he says is false!
PLEASE! I urge anyone who has ever read this book to reconsider their thoughts and let God speak to your heart. Pray and seek knowledge from the Lord and I am sure He will answer if you have faith! If you ever see this book, don't read it! Warn others too!
May God bless all of you

It bothers me when Christians start questioning another's Christianity. For any of us to question Oprah's walk, or lack thereof, with the Lord, is completely WRONG. I don't support her, nor do I oppose her, but I do know that, for me, as a Christian, I wouldn't be posting comments about another person, that are mostly in a negative light, because that isn't what God wants us to do. Since I don't know her personally, I can only go by what I've read that she has said... she was brought up by a Christian grandmother and believes the story of our Lord. The comment directed at her about "you know the wolf in sheep's clothing story", well, for me, was just stinky! Don't judge.... if you question another's walk, then pray for them, don't talk about them, this just makes YOU look bad.

well that fact that its on oprahs list of bestsellers and has to do with god should tell you something right off the bat. that woman is as new age as it gets! I think that this kind of book should not be read by new christians but if you are a solid christian who knows the word you might consider reading it, its important not to shut ourselves away from this kind of thing but to know about it so that when people talk to us about it we can have a intelligible rebuttal using the true Word of God. We are to work out our faith with fear and trembling not just except it blindly.
thanks for the heads up!

I have heard a good analogy to faith....think about the guys who make money, the reason they know if a dollar is counterfeit is because they have studied the original. The same goes for faith. If we study God's Word, we will know when we are presented with something false. Peace comes from God. Confusion, fear, and feeling unsettled comes from the enemy. If anyone is feeling that way, pray, ask God to reveal the truth to you, and read the Bible, that is God's love letters to us, His creation, His children. As mothers, we would never want our children to feel lost or confused...how much more do you think God feels that way about us?!! He loves us. Kaitlyn, praise God that you had discernment to know, that you are close to the Lord, and felt Him tugging on your heart and calling you to the truth. Stay strong in the Lord. Thank you for sharing!

Kathryn, does Oprah acknowledge that Jesus Christ died for her sins and that He is Lord and Savior over her life? (asking cuz I have no clue what she does or doesn't say)

THAT is what makes someone a Christian or not. Good works are good, but have nothing to do w/ a person's Christianity or lack thereof.......

While this book doesn't sound that great, I have to step in and say something about your comment on Oprah. To say she's not Christian oriented is merely a total misunderstanding as to what a Christian is. A Christian, whether they profess to be so or not, is somebody who does as Christ commanded, to have compassion, help the needy and afflicted, to make sacrifices for the benefit of others, etc.

So not only through her work, but also the exposure Oprah gives to many good causes, in my book that makes her a Christian, because she obeys what Christ taught. It's not about getting to Heaven, that is pure selfishness. It's about what suffering we alleviate with the blessed lives we are given by God. One doesn't have to be in church or constantly talking about Jesus to be a Christian, and I know many "Christians" who spend all their time in church and talking about Jesus, who are far from serving Christ. Serving the church and serving Christ are two very different things. I am at complete peace in my life and in a deeply blessed relationship with the Lord.

Just some thoughts I had to share.

Kaitlyn, I believe that the God he is refering to is Satan the Father of this world. You are right. Oprah is out there and not christian oriented, you know the wolf in sheep clothing, thing. Be thankful that the HS convicted you of the truth. You are so right on and God Bless You for sharing this. It's all part of the New Age garbage.

Thanks for your information, I had heard that the book was evil and misleading. Oprah is no chrisitan, she thinks that she is God. Keep up the good work spreading the word!

I felt the same way when I started reading the book. God DOES talk to people, but this wasn't GOD, this person who wrote this book and had conversations with "God" is just a vessel or tool of the Devil.
Christians have to open their hearts to GOD and the Holy Spirit.
GREAT post Kaitlyn, thank you for sharing.
God Bless you

It is not a Christian book, it's new age...which is an entirely different belief system than the Bible. It is a false religion. Oprah Winfrey is totally new age so I suggest not reading any reliigious books she suggests.

DONT read something that will help you question your worldview!? READ IT BECAUSE it's completely wrong. And then pick up a copy of Josh McDowell's "The Evidence that Demands a Verdict" to see where the arguments are flawed.

If you're so easily swayed that a well-written (even if false) book can sway you and make you question everything you believe, then you need to go re-evaluate your faith.

They featured an article warning parents about this book on "Focus on the Family" There is nothing in this book that is from or of God. This is one of the reasons why I have a problem with Oprah as she endorsed this book (as well as a bunch of other crack pot, new age theologies) We have to protect our children and cover them and watch what they are reading and being exposed to. So if you have children beware as this book is being issued by Scholastic Book Clubs also I believe which is in most of our public schools.

I couldnt get passed the first couple of pages because it is so off the mark. If you love and know God you will be aware straight away that it isnt in tune with His Spirit. I didnt realize it got THAT bad!!

Wow How Terrible !!!!! Not just for all the people reading the book to be led astray but also for the man who wrote it and is claiming its God he is talking to. We should all pray for him.
God Bless and keep you all tucked safely beneath his wing

Thanks for the heads up. This is a confusing time to be in the world of man. Some times situations like these, can actually strengthen our faith in the the Word of God, by causing us to use his gift of discernment, to seek His truth.

Kaitlyn I have a lot of insights on this, and they will probably comfort you if you both allow God to speak to your heart and realize that God does still speak to us if we'll only listen. Then too, we have to decide for ourselves which messages such people share, which sound most like they make sense.

I can't go into great detail at the moment, my doctor changed my medication and I am feeling awful right now, and trying to keep an eye on my two small grandchildren. But feel free to contact me and I will be happy to share some things with you. I will say this, even if this book is not necessarily right (I don't read books anymore so haven't read it), it is still good to reconfirm your own faith, because through it God will speak to you -- His guidance will tell you what is most sensible.

I truly admire your seeking spirit, I am always interested in matters of faith and the spirit.

Praise God for the discernment He gave you! This is a lesson to everyone to test anything we read by the Bible's standards. If what we're reading contradicts God's Holy Word, then we don't need to read it! Thanks for the warning.

I just wanted to add to your warning, I got a book for my birthday entitled Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. It said it was the story of her finding her way in life and in every way appeared to be a Christian book. It was totally New Age! I couldn't even get through the first few chapters.

Yikes! Thanks for the heads up! Another reason why it's important to read and read and know your Bible. Not to be filled with knowledge, but with His truth.

Oh Kaitlyn, you are absolutely right about this book. A few years ago (I think the book was fairly new new then) I was a brand new Christian - 1st generation and all! Anyhow, I was amazed by the intimacy the man had with God but the book still left me unsettled. I thank God for protecting me from the false teaching of this book and instead putting other BETTER books, especially HIS HOLY BOOK :)

God bless and let's all be Watchmen on the Wall for our friends, family and especially our Children

Thank you for the heads up. The Word of God warns us of false prophets, wolves in sheep clothes who will come spouting false doctrine tickling peoples ears and turning many way from the true word of God. But those who are not swayed, but stand firm until the end, we will see the face of God.
