I was wondering what modesty means to us Christian woman in this time where it is so hard to find it when walking around a public place with your family. Vegas is hard that is where I live..las vegas, city of Grace. So what do you think?

Being conservative holiness, my standard is different. I don't wear tight or low cut tops. My sleeves are below my elbows and my skirts are below my knees. I don't even own pants or shorts. I just swim in a lake wearing my regular clothes. I know swim modest has modest swimsuits, but I have not paid $100 for one yet.

Las Vegas is tough. When my husband used to have to travel there for business, he had to walk around staring at the floor. It all became so much, he prayed that he would not have to go back...and God honored that prayer. (Of course, God answered that prayer by having him laid off two weeks before the next scheduled trip! But that's another whole story of God working in our lives..and that was 8 years ago. He's employed now.)

I do not wear low tops or short skirts or tight pants either. I agree with Carla that you can look nice without showing everything you own. I never wear any bathing suits that show any skin between the top and the bottom...or that have a low neckline,or that have a lot of leg showing. It is hard to find a modest suit, but if you look hard enough you can find them.

Clothes are just clothes. I find that clothes that are said to be "glamorous" or "sexy" are always pretty uncomfortable to wear - especially high spikey shoes! So I give them a miss - not out of virtue or modesty, but simply with comfort in mind!

I once read that there are a higher percentage of Mormons living in Nevada than in Utah. But the tourists are entirely another story!

Thank you Carla for the response! I agree about over sized clothing lol That is a good way in finding out if you are dressed in moderation haha

When I dressed for church and was a little undecided whether it was proper for church, I would ask my husband how I looked. If he said 'nice', but nothing else, I knew it was okay. If he said 'NIICCCEEE!' and suggested I stay home from church, I went upstairs and changed ;)

I am a believer in moderation--in all things. My goal is for people NOT to notice my clothing, one way or the other. Dressing in deliberately over-sized clothes, long skirts, clunky shoes, etc doesn't particularly show your modesty, it makes people look and try to figure out WHY you are dressing this way, and they put you in the same category as some of the cults that have spun out of Christianity. I don't wear tight pants (unless I have an overshirt on that covers sufficiently). I don't' wear skirts over my knee. I don't spend 2 hours on my make-up (anymore ;)). I am clean, I am neat, I am covered, I am not convicted.

I do not counsel with men alone, and my husband doesn't counsel women alone. We have learned how terribly simple it is to become emotionally involved in a person's problems, and get too close. I watch my mouth, careful not to say anything that could be taken in a sexual way, and if someone is telling an off-color joke, I walk away.

It must be hard to live in 'Sin City'. We're prayin' for ya!

God bless
