My daughter is ten. I love her dearly. She lives with her dad. I get visition every other weekend and holidays and some extra days that she may have off. My question is that when she does come to visit she says "God" instead of gosh or golly or nothing at all. I take her to church. I don't use that word that way. IT is a special name. I teach her the best I can about God and his son. She seems to understand and respects that and by the end of visit is not saying it as often. Not sure what to do. Yours Truly in God Vicki

It's probably hard for her to remember, just keep gently reminding her. You already shared why but tell her it's a commandment to keep all the time, not just at your house.

Thank you. This has helped greatly. I will try these suggestions and let God do his work too.

Hi Vicki, our daughters are 21 and 26, when they were younger I explained the importance of not using God's name in amy other way but to Pray to Him, Talk about Him, Or Praise HIm. Then when they did use God's name in those ways, the next time I was up set about something I would use there name like a "cuss" word. Ex. Oh kristen/kara I am so mad that the dryer is not working. When they would ask what I wanted I would just tell them nothing I am just mad and used your name to express how mad i am. When they wanted to know why I was using their name, I told them if they could use God's Name when they were mad or upset, why couldn't I use their name when I was upset.

It only took a few times for this to sink in that using God"s name in vain was wrong. they would still some times use God's Name in this way, but they would stop and realize their using His Name like that was not a good thing.

Our oldest had several friends that were at the house often. If I knew the girl's If I hear them use God's name in that way I would use their name. I would explain my reason for doing this so the friend would understand why I was being rude. They soon got the message that using God's name in a non Godly manner was not going to work in our home. I hope my ramblings helped. Oh to this day when ever our girls use God's name this way, they will say I know I should not use God's Name that way.

My kids go to Church every week (3+times) and they attend a Christian school and yet they still come out with " God, MG, OMG or OG" I just correct them and Gosh or goodness, but I don't push the issue as unless they are saying something like GD (the D stand for damn, but I won't write them together) or saying Jesus, Christ or Jesus Christ in an unworthy manner they are not strictly speaking, taking the Lords name in vain, therefore I just gently encourage them that at our level of Christianity we try not to say "God" irreverently either. I hope this helps.
