I totally agree that most dancing takes place in enviroments where christians shouldn't be, or when lusting takes place while rubbing up of bodies of 2 people who are not married....but whats so bad about Ballet? I have searched my Bible and prayed about this many times, and feel no conviction from God about this type of dancing...my daughters love Ballet, but my denomination(Pentecostal) is so against it. what do you think??

David was a man after God's own heart, and he danced, so that's good enough for me! Yes, you can sin while dancing too, but God created it for His glory.

Our church is planning a 24 hour danceathon in a few weeks time, as a fundraiser for a community outreach event we're involved in. It will be good, clean fun!

Dance is something created by God. Actually, if you research out dance it's amazing the creativity God put into it... and so sad where the devil has tainted it. But God chose the BEST dancers to lead the people into war - why? Because dance sets the atmosphere for God's presence!

Dance is something I was born to do - God built me with the right body type. I never understood why my "big" toe on my feet were smaller than my other toes until I saw a foot doctor and he told me it was because I had dancer's feet - my build, my bone structure, everything was meant to dance. And I have done ballet, jazz, lyrical, etc. for God's glory since I was a little girl.

Now, I teach kids for free because I had parents who couldn't always afford my dance classes, I don't want to see kids "desire" to do something and can't because their parents can't afford it. God made dance. God loves dance.

I love to dance. Not clubbing, mind you, ballroom- swing, salsa, contra, even line dancing. I jam with my kids all the time. Ballet- absolutely.

But then, I belong to one of those crazy churches that also allows alcohol on the property. Our weddings are a blast ;)

I have lots of friends who belong to churches that don't allow alcohol or dancing. I understand that it can be an issue for some people, but in my opinion, everything can become an issue. All sin is is a distortion of something God made to be good. You can sin with anything God made to be wonderful and special- we're human, we can screw anything up ;)

I agree with you and the ladies who have responded. I am one of those people who CANNOT dance with other men. I know my physical limitations, and if I knowingly dance with someone NOT my mate, I am tempting the Lord, and asking for trouble. Kinda like picking up a rattle snake and praying I don't get bit.

As for ballet, I love to watch the grace and beauty, and see nothing wrong with it. I am Pentecostal, and believe the basic tenets as such. However, our denomination is so full of do's and don't's that we have put our people in bondage. The church I was raised in preached something like this: don't drink, don't smoke, don't dance, don't go to movies, don't play cards, don't wear make-up, don't swear, don't paint your fingernails, and if I have missed something, you get the gist. Now, what in the world did all this have to do with loving Jesus and living like Him? Jesus Himself said, it's not what goes in (or on) your body, it's what is inside (your heart). What you have with all this outward show is a holy-LOOKING person, but those same persons couldn't wait to get home from church to get on the phone (party line back in the old days ;)) and gossip about what Mrs Lund was wearing, etc.

Listen to your heart, sweetheart. If Jesus is in there, if the Holy Spirit is active in you, THEY will tell you what is right. Then don't let anyone condemn you or make you feel guilty. We have GOT to get the religion out of our denomination and get relationship.

Sorry for the rant ;) God bless

Honesty, I think dancing is in all of us and as long as it is done in a clean, tastefull way, and you have no personal convictions about it, go for it!

I see dancing as more or an exercise or sport, I was in ballet when I was 3-5 years old, then picked it back up when I was 7.
