Will you give your child the H1n1 Vaccine?

I am still going back and forth with the decision to give my 20 month old the H1N1 vaccine. She is in a home with only 3 other children, two go to school - for daycare. So she is not exposed at a high volume to the public, aside from church. I did give her the regular flu shot.

I just hear the debate on them, and am praying that the Lord guides me to the right decision for her. For now I am leaning toward not giving it to her.

Would you mind sharing your thoughts?

Thank you.

No, absolutely not. Not enough testing has been done. Not enough is known about the side effects of the vaccine. We keep our children away from big crowds, give them their daily vitamins, lots of fruits, veggies, and juices. However, I think it's a choice you have to make for what you think is best for your children. It has not affected my area very much at all.

The clinic were supposed to start on tuesday. Tonight they announced that they have run out and the shots will not be available to the general public.................how can they not see this coming.Perhaps the decision has now been made for us. Not sure what I can do now.

We don't get any of the flu shots, but this year I have increased our vitamin intake with supplements since there is alot of people getting sick around us. We have increased our B-6, B-12 and folic acid in our whole familyranging from age 2-33. The only problem that I come across is I have to give the kids a regular folic acid because it is not in the multi-vitamin for the kids. I choose a vitamin with no aspartame because of the age of the kids.

We have opted against the H1N1 vaccination. There really isn't enough information.
When children are resilient, strong, and healthy they are more likely to fight off what
comes around. I believe as long as you eat healthy, exercise,
take vitamin supplements, your body will build immunities to these flu's and even the
swine flu and be strong enough to fight it off
Yes it is a nasty flu a great deal of pain and sickness My oldest daughter had
it, laid in bed for a whole week. We have a large family she is the only who was sick
.
As I explained to her she now has built up her immunities. There's a lot of great
advice you have recieved. I would just like to encourage you to find out more history
first on these vaccinations before exposing your kids to it.Since it is new... wait!!!
I hope this help you in making a clearer decision.

as a h1n1 survivor...my 12 yr.old had it for two weeks- I wouldn't get it. I watch children in my home and also have a 3 yr.old son and no one else contracted it. she had it for 2 weeks before it became severe bronchitis and was sent home from school-The media has created this huge fear- wash your hands, teach your children not to put their hands in their mouths- But always check with your pediatrician for guidance in making such decisions- they know your childs health

i still can't decide......... I was going to ask my doctor if his boys are having it and go from their ( our kids are all the same age.) I was leaning towards no but there was a death nearby this weekend and the kid was healthy, athletic, on tamiflu 13 and died suddenly, his parents couldn't save by doing cpr while the ambulance was on their way. Not sure i want to take that chance..................

Thank you for sharing! My daughter was in the ER with Croup this weekend, and seems to be on the mend. I am praying this is it for her, aside from colds. I keep praying over her every night for health. I am leaning more toward not giving it to her still.

I appreciate your sharing, and knowing I am not the only one who has struggled with this decision.

We never get flu shots at our house. My 10 year old son, with an immune compromised system, has just survived H1N1. He did take tamiflu, but did not start it until the 4th day of the flu, cause that's when we obtained the medication. Every time he hears a news story about how terrible H1N1 is, he argues with the TV outloud. He says, "What are they talking about?, It's not bad at all". An objective perspective on this issue is hard to come by with all the media hype. When the urgent care doctor told our son he appears to have H1N1, he asked her if he was gonna die. She said he has nothing to worry about because this flu is no worse than any other flu, and 99.9% of the population survive the flu without any complications. Vaccine or not, 73% of the world population will become infected by this virus by this time next year. This morning I spoke with a friend, one out of 5 people in her family received the vaccine, and he is the only one in her family to get the virus. Also, the mercury in the vaccine is nothing to ignore. This toxic poison, used as a preservative in vaccines, is very controversial. It never leaves a person's body once it's injected. Something to educate yourself about. Good Luck making your choice. It's not simple.

from what i have heard it is best to give the child at that young age the shot but there is a preservative or something in it and you have to tell your doctor that you dont want the preservative in it...

When I took my daughter for her 18 month check up at the beginning of this month her doctor told me that she would not be giving it. She doesn't think that enough testing has been done with it. When I took my daughter I knew that I didn't want to give it to her but I still asked to see what her doctor thought about it. Everyone is different, you may want to discuss with your doctor. I am a stay at home mom so my daughter doesn't get out much and right now I try not to take her out at all unless I have to. I hope this helps you. I still have a lot of questions about the vaccine which is another reason she didn't get it.

I just read an article from the National Institute of Health that says the H1N1 vaccine is no different from the regular flu shot/vaccine. It's just a different strain of flu. If you already gave her the regular flu shot, I guess I would consider giving her the H1N1 vaccine. I know there is some concern about mercury and other chemicals in the vaccine. I have a 10 year old son who is severely allergic to eggs, so he can never get the flu shots. As a mother, you want to do what is best for your child(children). I will pray for God's guidance for you.

no i am not choosing to give my children the vaccine...it is too new, and not tested enough...and i do not believe in the "one shot fits all" mantality! I know of a few health care providers in my area that are not supplying the vaccine in their office, and are actually advising others to stay away from it....vaccines are pushed for more than just the reason of keeping away illness...money is a HUGE factor for the drug makers and suppliers. If the makers won't even be giving it to their family, than why would i? I will not use my children as guinea pigs! My trust in the Lord to keep sickness from our door step is not shaken by the media or any doctor who says it is necessary....wow..think i could go on about this for awhile....lol

I believe you should let her have the shot anyways, cause the epidemic of H1N1 is rapidly moving among the babies, toddlers & young children has been affected by this Illness. When it is available in my area, I plan to get it myself; cause I've got a compromised Immune system.

We were up in the air about whether or not to give the H1N1 vaccine. My son has dyslexia and has been diagnosed as ADD. After homeschooling for 2 years, we made the careful decision to allow him to go back to school part time and he's doing well. I didn't want to take the chance with the thimerosal possibly affecting his learning ability and setting him back.

Turns out that the decision was taken out of my hands. A few weeks ago my son contracted the H1N1 flu. It's been terrible! The thing about this flu is that there is really not enough known about it. He started with a terrible headache and a low grade fever that lasted for 4 days... low enough that he felt ok, high enough to keep him home from school. Shortly after the headache came the cough... this is a cough that sounds like croup... but deeper. It is non-stop. After 4 days the nausea came and the fever spiked to 104. He felt Horrible for about 3 days. Then the fever broke and the cough started dwindling. For a week he's had a very LOW temperature (no fever) - 96.6, 97.2, etc. It began coming back to normal and he's been feeling better. Today? His fever is back to 99.9 and his cough is coming back. In the meantime - our ferret also caught the H1N1 (apparently they're susceptible to human flus - particularly the A strains)... and he's on death's door.

The flu is nothing to mess with... it IS worse than your normal seasonal flu... but even knowing that... I don't think that I would have vaccinated him. There are too many unknowns.

I don't intend too. Our son is in a daycare. I believe in proper nutrient and definitely appropriate hygiene (sp?). Like practice washing hands throughly...cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing. We also use handsanitizer when needed. So far no problems. I don't get the flu shots for normal flu for me...my son did get that this year cause my MIL took him. I was not to pleased with that, but she and my hubby did it. She is terrified of this 'epidemic'. Oh well....no H1N1 though for us. I believe a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Is it safe? It all depends on who you ask and where you get your news?

Me personally, we don't vaccinate at all. Specifically for the flu- it still contains thimerisol (the mercury derivided). And I don't think it's accurate enough protection- it's a guestimate from last year's flu strain. I've heard second hand through friend's and relative's all over that the H1N1 in their area is very mild, kids are recovering fine. Now I know everybody is different and everybody reacts differently- that's where you need to make that judgement call for youself. But please don't base it on media hype and doctor's pressure.

We did a little personal study a few years back: My husband was in dental school and had all his clinics and patients. I worked in the hospital- not with direct patient care but the air is not that great, let me tell you! We went four years (99, 00, 01 and 02) He did not get the shot, I did get the flu shot. All four years, neither one of us caught the flu. We keep ourselves healthy with lots of veggies and fruits, supplements, and herbs. Now, with kids, we do the same. We get colds and fevers, i think we've had a few upset stomachs and diaheras but I can't think of any times the kids have had the full blown, living in the bathroom flu

Also, use common sense. If you know alot of people in your area have it, don't take your kids out very much. Don't take them grocery shopping, go later at night when they're in bed. DOn't take them to the play area at BK or McDonalds.
If they are in daycare or school- volunteer to help sanitize once a week!
There are lots of way to not get sick

Yes there is a ton of info out there pro and anti H1N1 vaccine. Pray and talk with your husband, it is a big decision that you need to make together. And be ready to accept any possible consequences EITHER way.

I highly recommend a $20 DVD from www.vaccine911.org (or com, cant remember) It was not address H1N1 directly but will inform you a ton more than your doctor ever did on the possible dangers from vaccines. There are several good youtube clips.
Good luck in your decision! We have decided not to.

No! We've never given them the regular flu shot & still won't & we won't give them this. We pray God's protection & divine health and have never had to deal with more than a couple of colds or very mild flu symptoms. God's grace is sufficent for us & He is more than able to protect us.

I am trying to decide as well. All of my kids just got over the flu..... it was pretty mild and I don't know if it was H1N1. Their doctor recommends them getting it but I don't know.... I think because I don't know of any kids who have it near me or people who are seriously ill from it. If I hear of that I probably will have them get one. Right now I'm just waiting to decide.
