both my guys know never ever use the word bored...we have a very large garden and a farm so if your bored mum can always find somethi ng for you to do........sometimes I worry about our need to keep our kids occupied with summer camps and activities....when I was little ( millions of years ago!) we occupied ourselves we used our imagination or sometimes we just vegged out.....kids need time out too the school year is long and tough especially for those in secondary school with state exams at the end of the year...give them time to just hang....to watch tv...mess about in the garden...meet with friends and play...summer is for fun amd relaxing...I dont mean to say that camps arent a good idea , my eldest is away at a camp for 3 weeks but her holidays here in Ireland are for 3 yes 3 months......that 12 weeks of teenager ...Aargh...

Last week my mom came to visit, next week is VBS, then we will have a week off before my in-laws come. Then another week off and the boys go to grandma's house then a week later we take the girls out to pick them up and stay for a week. Then school will start! crazy!

My fourth grader does a bit of homework every day. Reading for 30 minutes, then alternating every other day between 20 minutes of math and writing. Playdates with friends. Summer programs in the park. Swimming at the pool and the beach. Bible Camp. Family camping. Karate on Wednesday nights. Try to put a little structure into each day, then it seems like the free time is more appreciated and well spent. Today we had school at the grocery store, turning a 10 minute visit into 40 minutes. We compared prices per unit on several products, read ingredient lists, and talked about which packaging has the least impact on the environment. We learned how to be informed consumers who can make wise choices.

Library days and storytime, swimming lessons, playgroup, summer movies, and Pump It Up are some things that we have been doing.

Check your local county Recreation program- they should have lots of stuff going on- week long sports camps, art camp, movie nights, etc.

A favorite in our family is 4-H Camp- the BEST week of the year! Check with your local Cooperative Extension office to see what they have planned!

We bought some workbooks and are doing "home school" for an hour to an hour and a half every day. We go to the library a lot and get books to read together. We have a local Children's Hands-On Museum that has a lot of neat programs. I am trying to teach my oldest how to swim (help!). They're participating in some summer dance lessons, and my oldest will be doing an "art camp" next month. We're going to try to squeeze in roller skating too, though we haven't had time yet. Hopefully we'll also be able to schedule some play dates.

We do the summer reading program and I also look for different activities to do once in a while. We go to the zoo in our area a lot, where we are members. We are also planning on going to a Spacewalk place for free play time and Blueberry picking. I try to keep things somewhat down and somewhat structured. Good luck and I hope you enjoy!

Parks are a great place to go. They can run around all day and get tired out. I'm not sure where you are from, but if you live in the OC area in California, you can go to OCFunParks.com
That is a great place to find new fun parks in your area.

Summer reading program at our local library and a membership to our new KROC center where I can take the kids to swim indoors. We also go on a family hike in our local state park once a week and can visit the lake to swim in the sun.
