I was just wondering if anyone is raising their children to be spirit filled?

Acts 10:45-46 says 'and they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.
Acts 10:2-6 'he said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, we have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost....and when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them, and they spake with tongues and prophesied.
Being saved is one event, being baptized is one event, and being baptized or filled with the Holy Ghost/Spirit is one event. The rare exception to these happening at the time of conversion was Cornelius, where they were filled with the Holy Ghost even before Peter had time to give them the full sermon. But Cornelius had been fasting and praying for days before Peter got there, and God knew his heart was ready.
Tongues are not scary. They are your witness given to you by the Spirit so you know You now have Him dwelling inside you. He gives us knowledge to understand the hidden things of the Bible, and leads us into all Truth. When Paul was on earth preaching, his sermons always included the Holy Ghost, as He is vital to crucifying our flesh and following Jesus. Acts, 1st chapter says 'you will receive Power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you'. We need this power to become the complete Christian Jesus expected us to be. If you are confused about this, I highly recommend the book 'The Shack' by Wm Young. His explanation of the Spirit's work in our lives is explained beautifully.
We are in the Last Days. It is more vital that we seek the special infilling of the Holy Spirit than ever before. I pray you ask the Father for guidance on this.
God bless, all

Yes, of course! Not to speak in tongues, but to be His, righteous and Holy.

Yes, Megan, my husband and I are, and two of our grown children as well. Jesus' last commandment was 'receive ye the Holy Ghost'. This was the promise of the Father, that came to earth on the day of Pentecost. There's many other instances of people being filled with the Holy Spirit, like Cornelius of the Italian band. Paul asked someone if they had received the Holy Ghost SINCE they believed. Being filled with the Spirit as evidenced by speaking in tongues is separate from the Gift of Tongues. The gift of tongues is for prophesying, when there is an interpreter. Speaking in tongues is our private prayer language, just between Jesus and me. I love the closeness of it.
God bless, honey

Since my children and I are saved, and we seek God's Will for our lives, we too are filled with the Holy Spirit. We don't speak in "tongues" because there is no reason for us to. If God had a reason for us to do so, I'm sure we would. However, there is a great misunderstanding of what "speaking in tongues" is. People think it is some mystical language that can't be understood. Speaking in tongues is simply speaking a language that YOU don't know. For example, a woman and her husband were sitting on their front porch one evening, when a young man came up to them and asked, hesitantly, for directions. The woman glanced at her husband, thinking he would give the directions, but he just looked at her. So the woman told the young man where he needed to go, and being the evangelistic type, she also asked the young man if he knew about Jesus. The two talked briefly, with the young man finally agreeing to pick up a bible when he got home. After he left, the husband, who had been watching his wife the entire time, asked her, "How did you do that?" The woman was confused and asked him what he meant. Her husband replied, "Well, I didn't understand a word of what was said. When did you learn Russian?" She had no idea she was speaking a foreign language, but God wanted her to reach that young man. He enabled her to speak in tongues, so the Russian could hear the Word.

My husband and I are filled with the holy spirit. Our daughter received the holy spirit last year at church camp. We are still teaching our youngest about the holy spirit. We believe that one day he will be filled as well.

If you're going to keep it in context, then you should continue reading 1 Corinthians. Paul continues to give instruction on tongues and prophecy and how they should be used in or out of their church gatherings. In Paul's first letter to Corinth he is responding to questions they had previously written to him. I don't believe Paul was saying that the spiritual gifts would cease - especially because in 14:1 he says to desire them. As far as being "filled" with the Holy Spirit, all believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit when they recieve Christ. The gift of tongues (which Paul says that he wished all would have [14:5]) should be used in the proper place and order.
As far as teaching my daughter about it, we'll probably approach it the way my husband did with me. I was raised believing that tongues were for 1st century Christians and not in use today. My husband believed in tongues and had recieved the gift. What he said to me was very simple, but profound. He asked my why I was limiting God in this way. If I was seeking God and ALL that He had for me, and if God wanted to give me a prayer language through which I could grow closer to Him, then why would I deny that gift? So, I stopped fighting it and continued seeking God and one day, I very quietly found that I prayed a few words I'd never heard before.
I want my daughter to know and love Jesus so well that if she finds a more intimate way to connect with Him then she has the freedom to do so. If she doesn't need a new language to be more intimate with Jesus, that's ok too. I really think it's a personal thing - to enhance our prayer life and bring us closer to God - not to cause division or confusion - because Paul makes that clear in Corinthians too - that love is the highest law whether we speak with tongues of angels or not.

Yes I am filled with the Holy Spirit which indwelled me when I believed that Jesus died for my sins and I believe that once He indwells you it is forever and that you dont get more as you live here on earth (Eph 1:13-14; 4:30). I dont speak in tongues because I believe the Bible says that the sign gifts have ceased (1 Cor 13:8-10) and that the Bible also says that if you speak in an unknown language in the church you are edifying yourself, not God, for He requires that there is an interpreter, there is no profit in speaking in tongues (1 Cor 14:4-5) The sign gifts were given so that the Apostles could convince the unbeliever to believe ... they were given for the unbeliever as recorded throughout the new testament, especially in the book of Acts. Speaking in tongues today is not Scriptural, unless there is an interpreter. And once you are "Filled" with the Holy Spirit you are always "Filled" with the Holy Spirit ... He is either in you or not. Gotta keep in in context

Hello! My husband and I are in a spirit filled church. We speak in tongues. We talked to our daughters about tongues. We also read them a book called God, What is the Gift of Tongues? My 10 year old speaks in tongues. We are waiting on the Lords time for our 12 year old. Have a blessed day.

well, anyone who is saved is filled with the Holy Spirit......... you can't really raise them filled, you can teach them about salvation and live your lives according to God's word, they have to choose salvation when they understand it........and then they will be filled with the Spirit as well:)

That is awesome! My children are 9, 6, 4 & 2. My three older ones, as well as myself and my husband are filled and pray in tongues. I can't wait until my littlest is old enough to know what it means to be filled.

We are involved in a spirit filled church and my husband and I have received the gift of speaking in tongues. We talk about it with our children and are praying that they will also choose to become spirit filled in God's timing.
