Can someone please explain to me about the music in the churches? Why do we not sing out of song books any more? What happened to the old songs? The music that we sing now is okay, but I love the old songs, they were so heart-felt. Now, I have heard that some churches have praise dancers on the platform. What is up with this? I ask this because I backslid for a long time and I am trying to get where I need and want to be with God, I just don't understand. Does anyone know?

At my church, we just purchased new hymnals that have not only all the old hymns but the newer songs too. We still have only a piano to lead the music but it seems to be a good bridge between generations. We still sing the older well-loved hymns but we add new ones also. I think the biggest change was "THE SCREEN" There are still some older members that don't like it but I do because the words are up and it gets people looking up and singing and not down at their hymnals. Growing up in choirs and voice lessons it is a wonderful sound when it is projected out but it also frees people to focus on the words and not all those notes that they can't read anyway. I don't particularly like the newer music mthods in some of the newer churches where you sing one line over and over. But I do like to hear different styles. God will get you where He wants you and if you follow HIS lead, and His alone, then it will be all the better for you.

It all depends on the church. Near us there are a couple of churches that have different styles of music at each scheduled mass. Then there is one church where they play no instruments, only voice, or was it the other way around? Anyway, you get what I mean. It all depends on the church.
Give yourself time to learn and feel comfortable with the music, so long as the message is from the Bible and your spirit is being fed.
