My hubby and I have been sending our daughter to a Christian school for 4 years this September. We are a bit overwhelmed by the cost and might look at switching her in the new year. My question is, if neither of us are Catholic and neither is our daughter, but we go to church and are Christian, can we send our daughter to a Catholic school? We figure, there will be more similar values in a Catholic school than there would be in a public school...

Hi! My parents put me in Catholic school from 3rd grade to 6th grade. I enjoyed catholic school from a secular view. I made friends and enjoyed lots of my teachers but I didn't learn much about Christ to be completely honest. If you send your daughter their in hopes that she'll grow more spiritually in Christ then it is possibly that she won't. I used to read the Bible while I was there and I felt upset because what I read in the Bible didn't match what we would practice in Mass or learn in religion class. So my advice would be to check out the school and ask about their doctrine and what they learn to see if it is something that you agree with and would want your daughter to learn. As well, if there are any differences than you and your husband can have answers ready for you daughter if she asks you. I know that because I read the Bible and didn't feel that what they taught and what I read lined up, I missed out on a relationship with Christ a lot sooner because I didn't understand grace and so forth because it wasn't taught. But with this being said, the school could be a great one that matches with your beliefs and puts more emphasis of Christ than on Mary or other saints. So just check it out thoroughly and pray about it. But Catholic school was still waaaaaaaaay better than the public schools I attended. :) Hope this helps!

There will absolutely be more Christian values in a Catholic school than a public school. Catholicism IS Christian. If you want to teach your kid the differentiation between Protestantism and Catholicism, just talk to them about the interpretation of the Bible as the truth (as an individual interpretation) vs the interpretation of the Vatican. Then you can move on to things like transubstantiation. This is waaaay too wildly complex a question to discuss here.
