Though he is not my child, i take care of my younger brother. He will be 4 in August and just recently asked me what Heaven was. I told him that it was where god was waiting for us after we left earth. He asked if we could go visit and see it. I told him we couldn't of course but he'd see it someday i'm sure. He was confused though. How do i explain that heaven isn't just a place we can visit?

I am new here, but I have a recommendation. Randy Alcorn wrote an excellent book called "Heaven" he also has a children's version of the book called "Heaven For Kids" it answers any possible question about heaven. He uses biblical support for everything in the book. It is presented in a way that is easy for young kids to understand. Hope that helps!

How about telling him Jesus is in Heaven (up there) making us beautiful homes to live in when we leave Earth. Tell him about the animals laying down together and not hurting each other (the lion and the lamb will lie down together). Draw pictures of what we think Paradise is, and tell him that is what's waiting for him. Beautiful waterfalls, fields of flowers, fish swimming in the lakes, whatever he thinks is the perfect place. That's what I always think of when I think of Heaven, what I feel is the perfect place. It always made it feel real to me. Take him outside at night and look into the stars and tell him Heaven is past the stars. Kids have an uncanny way of picking up this stuff and if you make it seem real to him, he will believe it.

well so far, he and i have "talked to God" at night before bed. and he asks god about it sometimes but he's confused why he doesn't get an answer lol. however, he still likes talking to him. and he likes hearing the stories, but i'm not sure how to get across that they're not just stories. that Jesus isn't just a super hero like spider-man. I know what you mean about the seeing is believing thing. it just seems impossible to get it all across to him seriously until he's older :/

This is a really hard issue. I have a 5 year old that asks all kinds of similar questions. It is hard for her to truly believe in everything that I tell her because she can't see it which is really important to kids her age. Seeing is believing I guess to little kids. I encourage her to ask questions whenever she has one and do my best to answer in a way that she can understand. I've told her that her faith in Jesus should be more important that anything else in her life. I also went out and bought her a devotional workbook that she and I can do together that does a really good job explaining different topics in a way that she is able to understand. It's not east and I will definitely keep you in my prayers. If you have any advice I would love to hear what has worked for you.
