I seem to have this repetive pattern thru out anything and everything i do and it really bothers me now that i can see it. I have yet to truly stick to one thing and finish it. I rather start so many things and become so overwhelmed and worked i even become ill and have to let alot of things go. frequently throughout each year. including my bible studies and things for my kids. looking for ideas on how to break this life long pattern of self sabatouge.

Oh my you sound just like me!! My husband would describe me the exact same way and I have multiple projects 'almost' done. My responsibilities outside my home or done on time but inside is another story. Perhaps its because I feel its my family, I don't know. For me, my husband has been instrumental in helping me accomplish and focus on one task. He is always saying "anne, stop, Finish what you started!" Cause i can never do anything just enough, I have to do it all the way. If I clean the floor, you will find me on the floor with a toothbrush in hand scrubbing the corners, but if I don't do the floor, it doesn't bother me. I wish I had some awesome advice, other than pray, God will help you change if its in His will, perhaps this is you just as God intended? Who knows, pray on it, find peace. And maybe get a buddy..even my kids are on me, my ADD son will say...Mom..FOCUS!! (lol)

Hi dear! I concur with what has already been posted. Always start your day with God, you will never go wrong there. But.... please please do not rule out a possible diagnosis of depression.

There are many Christians that believe that a Christian cannot be depressed. I am here to categorically state that that is WRONG!!!!! A LIE!!!!!

I am an RN, a God fearing, Bible believing, Spirit-filled believer...... and I am also a sufferer with Bi Polar disorder. I will be on medication for the rest of my life.

We are still fallen and sinful people. When we accept Christ, our sins are forgiven and we are cleansed by the Blood of the Lamb, but we have not yet received our purified and eternal bodies. These bodies are still sinful, broken and dying. We battle against that and our inborn sin every day. And we will until Jesus calls us home.

Please, my sweet sister, see your doctor or pastor or find a Christian counselor in your area and seek a person that can help you determine if you suffer from Chronic depression.

It is a REAL disease, caused by chemical imbalances in the brain and is NOT an imagined thing. Let someone trained help you, and trust God to use that person to get you through this.

I see so much of myself in my younger days in what you are describing. And so much of what I still struggle with, even today. The only thing that has helped me is 1. Seeking after God, 2. Acknowledging that this thing was REAL and I needed help 3. Getting the help I needed through my doctor and counseling.

There are Christian, REAL Christian psychiatrists out there, and REAL Christian counselors out there as well. Talk with your pastor, or other Christian friends as they may know who you could contact.

its probably alot to do with your personality, you must be a "sanguine" or a "phlegmatic" (google will help you understand these terms lol)... but it could also be learned behaviour. are one of your parents like this? either way, you can break free from it!
I actually used to be the same... before I gave my life to the Lord (and a few yrs after bcoz it took time to break it!). I changed jobs frequently, even after being offered promotions, never kept a job over a year. I spent 4 years wasting time trying to decide what to do when i left high school, tossing up between uni courses and tafe courses. Didnt finish my tafe course, got accepted into uni, but didnt go. did a preperation course to audition for the WA academy of performing arts, was told i had a high chance of getting in, but didnt go to the auditions, etc etc etc. cant even begin to tell you all of the missed opportunities and things I gave up on too early.
There are different reasons ppl give up too soon. Usually its a low self esteem, like "i cant do this, i cant finish so i may as well quit while im ahead" kind of thinking... others its pure laziness. just cant be bothered, once the effort factor gets to a certain point the person pulls out purely because they just cant be bothered, some ppl have depression, depression really makes u want to just give up...even on living!

no matter what your reasons, excuses, personality etc etc, you CAN be set free. Your problem, is a MINDSET. Find out what your incorrect mindset is and then you can overcome it. you cannot do it on your own in your own strength, but with God you CAN. I did, im a living testimony of it! Ask the Lord to help you locate WHY you keep giving up. Then you can pray and plan for a course of action. It will definately take self discipline. your going to really have to stick to your guns to break the cycle, but dont feel like its too hard, like I said, with GOD you CAN CAN CAN CAN DO IT!!! you really can!
get your head into the word of God. Find scriptures that talk about your situation/problem, and how to fix it, and meditate the scriptures, speak them out loud over yourself... after all, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God... lean on Him... without God, changing is impossible, but remember, you are a NEW CREATION, you have the very Character of God within you! and accessing it is a matter of renewing your mind to God's ways in His word, and living out your faith daily.

man i could talk about this for hours and hours, but all you need, is the word. Even download messages free online that talk about renewing your mind, walking in the blessing, walking in love, being faithful and diligent etc. the more you soak yourself in it, the more it will sink into your Spirit and set you free! get inspired to DO IT! turn off that radio and turn on a great sermon from someone who is faith filled and knows the word! stop reading magazines and start reading books that can help you in your situation.

you gotta act now, not only for your own sake, but for your kids sake, or you run the risk of them being EXACTLY the same. Its never too late to change, we do it for the rest of our lives, from Glory to Glory :-)
go for it sister, live in the blessing youve inherited!

Denese, life is a struggle on it's own. If you sit back and reflect, its worldly things that are frustrating. We mothers tend to think that everything has to be perfect but in reality, it's really not a perfect world. God is the only perfection there is. That's why we have so many instructions. Humans are not made to perfect and once we realize that, we will be in a much better state of mind. We are to follow and live "like" Christ. We are not Him. Let some things go. I use to be so crazy on cleaniness that I thought that I needed to be an OCD project. Each day, think of what matters most. If that day is Bible study or Church, then go. The mess will be there, in fact, there will always be a mess. I had to sit down and think of priorities. I numbered them, God, Kids, Work, and then School. Don't feel bad about the simple things that goes lacking. Think about it, Don't sports have seasons?

Hey Denese I have had some of these same problems myself and what I have found is first spend time with God in the morning and ask for guidance for the day. Then spend some time planning your day, write down all that you want to accomplish and then catagorize it in importance like A (has to get done) B (should get done) C (would like to get done) and then put numbers 1, 2, 3... of what to do first, 2nd and so on. Then if something doesn't get done move it to the next days task list. It takes time to get in the habit of doing this so if you have a friend that could help you be accountable that would be good. Or you could also set an alarm on your cell phone as a reminder. As far as the energy goes I have started using Melaleuca Vitality Pack which gives me such energy and endurance I get much more done in a day. If you want to know more about the vitamins email me at safer4me@yahoo.com and I can tell you how to get them. I think it is important for our energy, focus, and endurance to give our bodies all of the nutrition that it needs to run effectively and I can do that with 67 cents a day. Hope this helps :)

God knows what you're going through, sweetie, talk to Him. Tell Him you need help to see a project through to the end.

I would suggest don't start a huge project, start out with little things, like clean the hall closet (lol). It sounds silly, but if you finish one project, and see how neat and beautiful it looks, it will give you the desire to go on to project two, and so on. You are feeling guilty, and the guilt will kill you. Stop it! Instead remember that you are a new creation, all old things are gone, and behold, all things are new, including your desire to be a completer of tasks. If you start little and work your way up, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish! Also, if you HAVE to do a big project, break it up into sections, then you can rejoice in 'hey, I finished phase 1! Now on to phase 2', etc.

And lastly, darling, you are a child of God. You may have to keep telling yourself that, because the self sabotage is a marker of self worth. You CAN do this, you WILL be a winner, you ARE worthy of love.

We are always here for you, sweetie, God bless!
