Training up your child with Godly values

I agree with Nancy that It is important to live the life in front of your children, you are the living epistle they read every day. It is equally important to impress in their heart and mind who God is and I agree with Miriam on how she teaches her childeren scripture and songs so they learn of God through the word. It enforces the principal of studying the word, etc... These declarations are another way to assist in training up your child in the ways of God. It establishes and enforces within their soul who they are according to what God has said concerning them. It builds a confidence in their ability to walk out and apply the principals of the Word of God to their daily lives. We all should speak over our lives; decreeing the word of God. Our words have power and what we say, just as the Father, must come to pass.

Hi Patricia! I have a two-year old. The best method is to have them memorize a simple and short verse every month. They are wonderful at this age, and they sound adorable when they try to repeat the verses! My child's verse for this month is "Let us go to the house of the Lord." Psalm 122:1. It helps to include little motions (swing arms to the side for "let us go" to signify you are walking, forming our hands like a house for "the house" part, and pointing up for "of the Lord" part, etc.)

Also children's Christian songs help them start embracing the idea of God's love and Jesus' sacrifice. My favorite are the songs from Cedarmont Kids (google or get at a local Christian Bookstore). You'll find yourself singing along with them, and it is a good way to pass the time during lengthy car rides too! :) God bless!

I raised four children. They all have Christian families of their own now. What I have observed over the years is that children pay less attention to what is SAID and more attention to what is DONE! My own children paid more attention to what I said if they saw it being lived out in my daily walk with the Lord. The scriptural instructions are: Deuteronomy 6:5-7, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your srength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

When I send my children off to schoole every morning, I tell them three things, I LOVE YOU - YOU ARE YOUR FATHER'S CHILD - HAVE A BLESSED DAY. Sometimes they leave before I get out of the shower, so I will text it to them, so they ready it before they get to school.

I attend Faith Worship Center in Columbus Ga. My pastor is Dr. Ann L. Hardman. We are online as well on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and Tuesdays @ 7:00 p.m. Website www.ahministries.net. We speak declarations over our ministry every service. I supposed that helped to plant the seed for the idea in my spirit.

You are a great mom and an inspiration. I shared with all my friends what you have done and encouraged them to do the same. We have chosen to send our kids to Christian school and that is more or less to remove the secular distractions of provocative dress, behavior, etc, but its important to recognize that it starts at home, including bible study.

I've listed the scripture references on Kayla's declarations below. I didn't do Anna's because it is basically saying the same thing just in an easier language since Anna is younger. These are what the Lord gave me to speak over my children. Not every declaration has a specific scripture reference. It is the desire of my heart and I believe the Lords heart towards my children based on the specific gifts and ability He has placed in them. You may have to tweak them based on what He has for your children.

These are excellent examples. I'm writing a declaration for my children to decree over themselves. I'll share once the Holy Spirit gives me completion over what to decree over each of my children based on the giftings God has placed in each of them and the challenges that come to contend with their destiny.
