My friend wants to use all-in-ones, but they are so expensive (about $17 each). Has anyone used them? Are they worth the first expense? Do they last a while? Where can you get them? Let me know so I can pass it on.

I second the BumGenius 3.0 AIO-  I have a 16mth old and 2 month old and LOVE LOVE LOVE these diapers- The upfront cost is a bit high, but over time (and especially with the second one) the savings are terrific!  I buy all my diapers through CottonBabies.com and have had great experiences-  I've even returned a few diapers that "broke-down" over time and had them promptly replaced with brand new ones!

My favorite AIOs are also the most expensive I've ever bought - the BumGenius organic one-size, which run $25 apiece. They have a soaker design that allows them to dry faster than some other AIOs, and I've found they work great for us. They're also supposed to fit from 7 lbs to 35 lbs, so hopefully we'll get a lot of use out of them. If you're looking for a sized AIO, Thirsties makes a good one. I have several of those we used a lot, but we're growing out of them (I have 12 size Small, if anyone wants to buy 'em!). My favorite places to buy cloth diapers are jilliansdrawers.com and cottonbabies.com

After trying FuzziBunz, Happy Heinys, Crickets, and more...I just got my first Dream Eze organic AIO and love them!  I wish I had just them.  There are 2 soakers sewn on the "outside" rather than inside so they dry much better than other AIO's I've tried.  www.diaperpin.com has a great review section for all sorts of diapers, inserts, diaper creams etc.

Yay!  I'm the friend she was talking about in the original question.  I have been looking at the bumgenius 3.0 one-size diapers, and I still want to receive several as shower gifts (hope, hope) since they are a big expense if you're going to buy enough to use on a regular basis, but we'll probably use some regular pin-on plastic pants covered prefolds, too.  Thanks for all the advice!

I use Fuzzi Bunz diapers and I have used them since my son was born.  We have been using them for over a year and they are defintely worht it.  The first expense is a little much but in the long run you save SOOOO MUCH money.  The fuzzi bunz almost never leak. as we all iknow nothing is fool proof.  They have snaps and they don't go bad like the velcro does.  I loved the fuzzi bunz so much that I started to sell them.  Let me know if I can provide any more information and you can always email me at clothdiaperdepot@yahoo.com

I use pockets and AIO--I bought a few of the AIO to make life easier for my husband--but as my baby got bigger found I was always stuffing them with a little extra--so it wasn't saving me any time from the pocket diapers--also they do take alot longer to dry--which is a pain--

Looks like you got some good advice and brands to look to.

I can't suggest brands, cause I have always made mine.  I made a pocket with PUL when I started up again, and I loved them.  They dried quickly since they were pockets, and the PUL made it so I didn't need any covers.  They lasted about 3-3 1/2 years before the PUL started to wear out a little.  I still use some of them on occasion, but I have converted.  I love wool covers and in finding wool i discovered hemp and bamboo.  I love the thought of a breathable diaper and the hemp and bamboo mixture I have found is very absorbent.  I love the wool covers to put over my breathable diapers.  I must admit they take longer to dry, but if you hang them out in the sun they dry in a few hours.  -that is the best way to dry them anyway!  No stains and no smells!-  I recently bought some cute fabrics and thought I might try to sell my diapers.  I made two cute girlie ones today.  They turned out very cute.  I have the stuff to make both boy and girl.  If you are interesed mine will be less than $17.  just let me know.  My etsy shop is

I dont' have any diapers listed, but you can convo me.

Any other ?'s I'd love to help.

I started using BumGenius 3.0 when my daughter was 2 months.  I could have started her at birth, but heard bad things about cloth not fitting newborns.  I love the BumGenius.  They are super easy to use, dry quickly, and have been well worth the initial cost.  I also bought from diapers.com and got a $10 discount on my first order as well as the 6 pack discount.  I also use the diaper sprayer and cloth wipes.

I used bum genius, kushies, bumkins, and swaddlebees. The kushies gave out first. The bum genius my kid just outgrew. Both bum genius and swaddlebees take FOREVER to dry for me. But it was a great transition for me from using sposies and they are definitely useful when out and about. Of those I think I prefer the bumkins as they dry faster and I didn't have any leak issues with them. But I think different mamas just have different preferences. Yes, they are more expensive but I also started with a toddler using them and have used them for about a year and a half, so, I still feel I came out ahead over sposies. Oh, I didn't use them at night though. I used fuzzibunz at night.

AIO's are handy.  Since there's no stuffing.  One thing about AIO's is that they can take a little bit longer to dry.  I have thirsties AIO's and they are nice because even though they are an AIO they have a pocket where you can add more absorbancy if needed, but also you can turn them inside out to make drying easier.  I would say the cost of any cloth diaper is worth it.  Financially you will come out ahead especially since you can reuse the diapers for more children.  You are producing much less waste and it's better for baby's skin.  I got my diapers at:

Here is a great cloth diaper tutorial for getting her starting learning about cloth. Pockets and AIOs are easy to use and care for. They are very close to disposable, only you save lots of money! They will last a long time and you can get ones that are one-sized!

If your friend decides to use cloth diapers, direct her to "diapers.com" for shopping needs. When you purchase 6 of the same color, you get a $3 discount (on bumgenius brand). Additionally, you pay no shipping on orders over $49.

We are using BumGenius 3.0 and are very pleased. They are adjustable, easy to clean, and if put on properly, they do not leak (we've been learning that last one the hard way.)

I too use the bumgenius 3.0s. My son wore them from birth to now and he's 1 yrs old. I've saved so much money. I know that I only bought a couple of disposables on occasion, but for the most part he's in cloth. Got mine at jilliansdrawer.com and another set from cottonbabies.com. I think the real cost savings is earned in the first 6 months since they go through diapers quickly in those early months.
