Anyone use BumGenius brand cloth diapers? I have recently come to the dark side of cloth (lol!) My mom bought me 6 from BumGenius and so far I like them. They give Ava red lines on her legs though where the leg part seems kinda snug. Maybe that's just all cloth? I have never seen a cloth diaper on a baby - oy, I know, it sucks! I was pressured by my IL's to use disposable and now that I have tried cloth I like them so much.

Here's the problem. My mom is asking if I want more but I am not sure if they're as awesome as other brands???

Help me out here. Should I ask her for more? I want more - but then I'll be stuck with that brand and I just don't know enough about what's out there. Thanks so much!

I use the ATD all-in-ones from clothdiaper.com. They now are called Osocozy (I think) but they are awesome diapers. I never have leaks and my son can pee about a gallon at a time! :) They are also quite a bit cheaper than BG as well. However, the mamas I know that use BGs love them - I've never tried them myself - just stick with what works well for my baby. We also do not have red lines ever with these diapers. For the record - I do have a pretty thin baby (no chubby legs) - which might make a difference.

I don't use those, I use regular chinese tri folds. The reason I use those (I used them on my daughter, and now for my son) is because I read that eventually the all in one diapers leak through the leg... Now.. cloth diapers are a rather large investment, so for me, I chose the Chinese Prefolds, organic cotton and I've had no problems. I buy the Bummies covers and I also use the biodegradable liners so i can just put the poop in the toilet with the liner. I know you said these are leaving lines on your baby's skin and I'm wondering if maybe these diapers eventually stretch? i'm not familiar with them at all.. but mine are one size since you fold them yourself and I use the Snappi to tie them. I've never had a leak or blow out either. I love my cloth diapers... I have 36 of the cloth and about 4 cover in small and 6 in large. That's it. I occasionally have to use disposable - when we're out or travelling and I really hate them. They always leak or just don't fit right!

As for rashes.. the only time either of my kids had diaper rashes in cloth is if they had the flu and they had the runs otherwise, nothing has ever happened to their skin in cloth. I also use eco friendly soap and never ever use bleach (I don't even have that stuff in my house). I pre-soak them in Borax which is a natural deodorizer and stain remover and then just wash them for the white cycle in my machine. i do diapers once a week or so. for overnight, I do use the toddler size diaper for extra absorbancy (same idea, only they're bigger so I just have to fold them down at the back and that's it.)... hope that helps.

PS. because my daughter knew when she was wet... she was potty trained by 14 months old... so stick with the cloth! My daughter is 28 months and my son is 10 months.. I'm starting potty training with him next month. fun fun.

I love my BGs! Mine do leak from time to time though. I usually use disposables at night (but those leaked too! We have currently had FABULOUS success with Natural Baby Disposable diapers for overnights, no leaks yet. Fingers crossed!) Back to the BG's.

Ok here are my suggestions.
Keep your receipts or proof of purchases. The diapers are under warranty for 1 year. If the elastic, PUL, or the velcro starts to wear out they will repair or replace your diapers!
here is a copy of this from their website. What is the warranty on bumGenius products?
Cotton Babies will stand behind the workmanship and materials in a properly cared for product for one year from the date of purchase. The Cotton Babies Guarantee covers all components of our products including the snaps, lining, hook & loop closures, elastic and waterproofing. The warranty is extended to the original purchaser of the products only. Proof of purchase is required.
To make a warranty claim, product must be sent at customer's expense to their distributor (Cotton Babies is the U.S. distributor for bumGenius) for examination of workmanship and materials. Diapers must arrive unstained, clean, stink-free and dry. After reviewing your diapers, we may replace the diaper or provide you with simple instructions for resolving the problem you are having.

Except when caused by manufacturing or component defect, this guarantee does not cover leaking, diaper odor or normal wear/tear. Warranty is void when:

The washing instructions have not been followed.
The diaper has been altered.
Any of the following has been used in conjunction with the use/care of the product:
Water temperatures exceeding 150F or 60C
A detergent containing additives (enzymes, brighteners, whiteners, dyes, perfumes, essential oils) or natural soap
Fabric softeners
Any caustic substance
Diaper rash cream

I personally used WAHM and prefold dipes with covers until DD was about 2 mo. old. I then felt like the one size BGs fit her well.

Other GREAT diaper solution I would love to share and JUST started using again are my prefolds. My DD is 21 mo old. We are in the middle of potty learning. I just got a new Thirsties cover (can't say enough good things about these covers!) and I just laid a prefold in there. Worked great! She didn't want to wet it and asked to use the potty while it was on. (The BGs are very good about wicking away moisture, which is not a great thing when potty learning).

I highly recommend BumWare AIOs! I have tried a variety of cloth dipes & these are the easiest for me. I have super chunky babies & I try to avoid the red lines. (I don't think anything I've used bothers my kids, but watch it. Dipes really don't have to cause red lines!) I'd try a variety before zeroing in on one brand. Another thing is that different brands fit different babies differently, so your fave might not be someone else's. It pays to try a bunch out & get the feel of a few different systems.

I use the Bum Genius diapers and love them!

I have noticed that many people are having problems with the velcro on their diapers. If your diapers are within their one year warranty, the company will fix the problem for free. Otherwise, you can call cotton babies at 888-332-9474 to get a velcro replacement kit. You have to replace the velcro yourself (or sweet talk someone that sews), but it makes your diapers like new again.

I have one year old twin boys and have been using BumGenius since they were 2 months old. I absolutely love them and they seem to age well.My boys don't ever get diaper rash with cloth diapers but with disposables they get diaper rash within an hour. I have 4 friends who also use them and rave about them too. I have 24 and have to wash them daily. But my friend with a 2 year old only washes every other day with 12. I have not used any other brands but I am completely content with BumGenius.

Yes, I use Bum Genius. We started out with Knickernappies and they leaked like crazy. I have never had any problems with my Bum Genius diapers. The only think you need to make sure of is that you wash them in a detergent that is completely additive and enzyme free. This is very important if you want your diapers to last.

I LOVE my BumGenius and haven't had an issue. I have about 24 pairs and don't think I could go with another brand. The only complaint I have is that the Velcro is starting to get worn out. My only thought is to replace it myself when it gets to the point of not being able to stick. Anyway, good for you for choosing to use cloth! My family/friends thought I was crazy to use them, but I can't live without them!

Wow, thanks everyone you've been so helpful! I am going to get more from my mom and the red lines are gone since I started placing the diaper between her creases. She's got some pretty awesome rolls. I've washed the first 6 a few times now and love how clean they get and that it takes less effort than I thought. Thanks everyone for your input.

i've tried them all ever since my boy was 3 months old, i even sewed my own--and now that he's two, we still use bum genius. it's hands down, my favorite, the best, and they don't leak!!!! just thought i'd give you my two cents. they are worth the money, esp if you're going to use them with another baby. the red leg rash could come from using the wrong detergent perhaps? i use planet and if i can't get eco friendly stuff, i use purex free and clear.

hope this helps! yes, do tell your mom you want more!! they are so worth it.

This store offers a "starter Pack" of a selection of diapers and then you can use a few and see what you like. I liked bum Genius best but I also use organic prefolds. I like the little flap that covers the stuffing so that it is not tempted to pop out the back and get baby's onsie wet. I got a starter pack and then I felt very confident to order more of what I liked, and you only have one of each so it the others are your "favorite" then you just have to use one, when your favorites are dirty.

We have a couple BumGenius & the hook & loop closures seem to curl faster than some of the other brands we have- which suts into my girl's tummy. Don't have that problem w/ Blueberry or Happy Heiny's- which have the widest closures of them all. I prefer using prefolds & soakers & gDiapers at night.

Def strip the diapers and use detergent that is good for cloth diapers and does not leave residue in them.

Hannah, the problems we were having was with pee leaking. We were so fustrated, everytime we put him down for a nap his diapers would leak out the back, I was constantly changing him, and changing his blankets and sheets. It was so fustrating I was seriously begining to wonder if we had made the right choice about buying cloth diapers. Finally (when our son was 2.5 or 3 months) we changed to the bigger liners, snapped at the middle snap, and opened the diapers up to the middle snap. That seems to have solved our problem.
You can always try doing a double wash in hot water to make sure there is no residue on the diapers, also if you smell the diapers they shouldn't have a smell to them so if your's do the extra wash will help.
I've called the 1 800 number for help with trouble shooting and they were very helpful.

Keep in mind that even a disposable diaper will leak a really messy BM sometimes. I was traveling with my son and used disposables for the day because I didn't want to deal with any leaks, and he had a BM that leaked through the disposable!

hope this helps!

I have mostly FuzziBunz but we received 3 Bum Genius as a shower gift. I like the Bum Genius but only use them at night because they are a little bulkier. My daughter is 8 months old and we have only used CD so they have been used a lot but the Bum Genius velcro doesn't seem to hold up too well. It has already lost some of it's 'stickiness' so I say try some FuzziBunz!

we're using bum genuis diapers for our son (he's 5 months old now) We had some problems with them in the begining with leaking, but we seemed to have solved the problem (we're using the one size fits all). We really like them, the only other ones that we tried were the ecobumz, and I was thrilled with them.
good luck!

i use bum genius for my daughter Eva (pronounced Ava, lol!) and i love em. they leave a little bit of a red line sometimes, you just have to play with the tightness. i like them better than inserts with nikkys because the cloth actually stays in place. i did buy a bunch of fleece inserts to supplement the couple of microfiber inserts that come with.

Thanks everyone for helping me make my decision! I think I really like the BumGenius and my mom is going to get me 6 more. Perhaps I will try something else eventually but for now these are great. I tried to situate the leg part between her chubby leg creases and that helped do away with the red lines, thank you Tanya!

I just washed my first 6 with no problem whatsoever... Loved how clean they came out! I mostly chose cloth because I am worried about the chemicals in disposables. I read that the super absorbent stuff that sometimes shows up on baby's skin when the disposable is too full is the same chemical that was removed from tampons for causing toxic shock syndrome (TSS)!!! Scary...

Thanks again to all those who helped me decide. ♥

I'm new to mommyhood AND new to cd-ing...i've been doing it since my little one arrived in november 2009, and i love it! but...i'm still getting the hang of it as well.my advice is to try several different ones before you decide...and you have to know what's most important to you about cloth diapering (i.e. saving money, saving the environment, etc.). i chose to cloth diaper mostly for monetary reasons so i researched what cloth diapers/covers other "financially challenged" mothers loved and gave some of those a try. just like clothes, cloth diapers don't all fit different babies the same way...every baby has a different body (chubby tummy/skinny thighs, narrow waist/chubby thighs, etc.) honestly, i have 6 bumgenius that i was given as a gift, and out of all of my stash, those are the ones i'm getting ready to sell at a swap. they are great diapers, but i hate having to wash the whole diaper everytime. i prefer prefolds with covers (thirsties, grobaby, superbrites, and boorois are my faves) or ones with snap-in inserts like the grobabies. go to cottonbabies.com for great product reviews, or allaboutclothdiapers.com which is a blog by an experienced and well-rounded cd-ing mommy. hope this helps! good luck

I've only tried BG, but I love them. I got mine from Cottonbabies.com and craigslist. I also bought a ton of hemp inserts, and prefer to use them over the provided cotton ones. Why? They are about half the size, therefore making the diapers less bulky, and can hold about double the amount of liquid. If you haven't gotten to the poopy stage yet, I highly suggest getting diaper liners. Nobody likes dealing with poo, and they make life so much easier for a little bit of cost. I got the larger size and cut them in half, doubling the amount of liners.

I perfer BG's over anything because they are trim and i can stuff more. SO night time with my big wetter i can add a hemp (joey) behind the microfiber and it will absorb more. We also have goodmamas which are cute but i did not pay full price for them. They are more bulky. prefolds and kissaluvs are what i used when she was a newborn which I will do again if we have another one. I really like to use fitteds at home with no cover to keep her aired out and BGs when we go out because they are easy. My husband perfers BGs. FB did not fit my chunky thigh kids.

I bought a gently used Fuzzy Bunz and it was ok ... I'm not sure if newer ones actually have a flap to cover the pocket as the one I have is just serged and open ... and that's a pain. I did a lot of homework on cloth diapers and recently bought myself 6 V3.0 BG one size for while we were out (dad loves them and prefers them to the prefolds that I use at home). My understanding is that BG is like the Cadillac of cloth diapers. I found them very handy and would easily fit an infant prefold in a pinch. They aren't cheap and if someone else will purchase them for you - I would get them. If I hadn't been given the other diapers by friends who were done having children, I would buy more.

The curling tabs is a common issue with Bum Genius diapers, and really any diaper that has velcro or aplix. This is why I am a fan of snaps and convert people's diapers as part of my business.

I love my BG diapers and the only issue I have is the tabs. Granted, I got all of my used and so they are not brand new, but some of the tabs on them are starting to roll back and therefore catch on his pants (once in a while pulling loose).
I do love them though, but I haven't tried any others. =-)

I've used BumGenius for 13 months and my dgt hasn't ever had a problem. When I have other people watch her I have to make sure I tell them to not put the diapers on too tight. I don't hardly even pull on the tabs, I just lay them on and she has leaked a handful of times. I use Allen's Naturally Laundry soap, expensive, but you don't use much so I still have half of the original gallon I bought. I can't say enough good about this brand. I've tried other brands and none of them worked as well as these and they have laundered just beautifully. I'm expecting my second and will be using them for her too. Good Luck!

We use them and they're our favorite by far! We've also tried FuzziBunz and gDiapers. gDiapers were no good for newborns, and FuzziBunz get a little pilly on the inside. Try using a larger rise setting if you're using the onesize. Also, you might need to loosen your velcro a bit to avoid such a snug fit. I converted all of ours to snaps and we love them even more! I have converted a few organics and noticed they tend to retain the smell a little, and that they take a really long time to dry. We just got our first shipment of Rockin Green to de-funk our microfibre and sell online, and right now our diapes are in for a lavender vanilla treat!

I mostly use prefolds and Thirsties covers but have recently bought some pocket diapers to try. I bought 2 Bum Genius, 2 Fuzzi Bunz, and 2 from a WAHM (made by mama, Diapers by Deb OS Pockets). The Diapers by Deb are by far my favorite. The Fuzzi Bunz I like next and the Bum Genius are my least favorite of the bunch. I don't hate them, but I probably won't buy anymore. I ended up buying two more of the Diapers by Deb shortly after buying the first two. And yesterday I just bought one more. I stuff them with infant prefolds that don't fit my daughter anymore. I use the pockets when we go out because I kept having poo blowouts with the disposables and decided to just give up on them altogether.

I've been using BumGenius diapers and love them! I to noticed red lines on my babe's legs, but found that if I pulled out some of the extra fat / skin on his upper legs [he's got enough rolls on his legs to keep a bakery in business for a looong time], and had the elastic closer to the "business" area, the lines disappeared. I also had to adjust the snaps to the next level up and that seemed to do the trick. I give my babe some "air out time", which he loves and keeps any rash outbreaks down to a minimum. I know they don't recommend using a diaper cream as it may affect the absorbancy, but I've used diaper cream and have had zero leaks....something I can not say for a disposable diaper!

We have 24 BumGenius diapers and they get us through 3 -4 days. I don't think you need more than that, unless you don't want to do laundry twice a week...however I think by the time we have to laundry ours, the smell of the dirty diapers needs to be "resolved".

I like that once the diaper is put together, that's that. No need to put on an extra outer lining, they grow with your baby so no extra sizes needed, they are very absorbent provided you wash them a couple of times before your first use...Some of the other cloth diapers may not be as absorbent.

Hope this helps.
