I decided to cloth my 1 year old daughter and i baught both fuzzy bunz and bumgenius to try out and see which ones i like best. The problem is everytime she wears them she gets this rash on JUST her stomach and back...Its so weird! It isn't even in her diaper area! She only does this when wearing cloth..I cant figure out if its the fuzzi bunz or the bumgenius! Anyone else have this problem to either diaper?

I use Charlies Soap and do an extra rinse cycle... all it takes is a little bit and it works great on all my laundry, not just the dipes :)

I agree with the ladies who suggested the fabric might be the problem, but it's worth making sure you're using an enzyme-free detergent as well.

my DD had a rash problem with BumGenius... I was really disappointed... I had to sell them all, and DH (who wasn't on board with cloth diapering in the first place) really didn't want to try more.. so we had to go to disposables... no more rashes... but so much for the environment... ( can you tell I'm still a bit bitter?! LOL) She has eczema though, so skin issues have been present since she was born.. and we have to use cotton on her...

You can check diaperswappers.com for some good cloth diaper deals.. maybe buy one or two of a few kinds and try... I sold all of my BG's on there at a good price... so I know you can get some decent prices... just don't buy tons of one kind, until you find one you are happy with. I am almost embarressed to say how many BG's I bought originally...

also.. I second the previous poster that suggested Country Save detergent... the dipes can really hold on to other detergents...

good luck!

You might have a detergent problem. Children can have trouble with enzymes or optical brighteners that are often in mainstream detergents. Sometimes, these are only bothersome to the little ones when they are cloth diapered. The thing is though that some more diaper friendly detergents (ie no optical brighteners or enzymes) can be coconut based, which some young ones can also be allergic to. My son had a rash above his diaper area when I used a coconut detergent. I switched to Country Save and we have had the best experience with that. If you are military, you can get Country Save in the Commissary.

I would try Motherease Diapers. You can also look at craigslist or kijiji to find used diapers so that you are not spending full price if they don't end up working for her.

Heat rash is more likely with cloth... particularly with PUL. I love my fuzzi bunz though so I just dress her lighter!

Ashley I haven't experienced that problem - but the one thing I can think of is that she might be allergice to synthetic materials. Most cloth diapers have a fleece inner lining that helps to wick away the moisture and then an outside PUL cover. Both Fleece and PUL are synthetic materials. To see if this is what is causing the problem I would suggest trying a cotton, bamboo or hemp prefold diaper on your baby with a wool cover. Both are natural materials and should not cause an allergic reaction. The wool cover you can reuse every day for at least a week before cleaning it so I would recommend just buying one to see if the synthetics is what's causing problem (plus wool covers are kind of expensive (i.e. $25 each) and you won't want to make that investment if it doesn't solve your problem). You'll also need about a dozen prefolds to get you through the day.

Hope that helps.

This site offers great prefolds at cheap prices:
