Thirsties (covers at least) are great for skinny babies, but my skinny born babe got fat by two months and the Thirsties covers were way too tight on her thighs to fit her waist. Too bad, they were great for leaks! We use Fuzzibunz OS now, which really are the best for being truly adjustable. They fit her skinny and then we just let out the leg elastic as she got chunky. Although, they were a bit bulky till she hit about 10lbs.

lol I have exactly 27 too! Newborns need approx 24 and your son will need up to 20 (depending on potty training of course), this is going by washing about every other day. If the one size is a bit big looking on your newborn, you could try buying prefolds as they are very cheap, only up to a few dollars each, and pair with some covers. I havent tried Thirsties.
