Does anyone use cloth swim diapers? I've seen the Imse Vimse Swim Diapers and wondered about them. I want to get DD out in the inflatable pool soon, but know I need something other that just our cloth diapers. (Or, at least, I think I do!) Any suggestions, advice?

I have used the Target ones for the last 3 years and love them. They are usually on an end cap. I've never had to deal with poop though.

Check the Dollar Tree too. I have heard that they are carrying the Target ones from last year. None in my area are, but there have been some in other places.

I have a Bummis swim diaper and loved it too!... but my daughter has outgrown it. Thanks for the idea on the pocket diaper with no insert - I might try that this summer!

Sooo...does anyone have a way to keep runny breastmilk poop from leaking outside the cloth swimmy?

Quoting Meaghan:

and if going to a public pool, some have rules about what they allow in the pool and what they don't so be prepared to be told you cant use them there...

Where we have our swim lessons (at a private swim lesson school) they *do not* allow the DISPOSABLE kind, as they said they don't seal well and the poop comes out much more easily than it does with a cloth one. I see parents doubling them - putting a disposable under a cloth, but that seems utterly silly to me, and wasteful. The cloth work better...why use something under it? And why use something you throw away when you're already using something that's re-usable?

A swim diaper is basically like a training pant that opens like a diaper, it just has a soft lining to hold the poop in, but does not hold pee. BF poop will still come out and if going to a public pool, some have rules about what they allow in the pool and what they don't so be prepared to be told you cant use them there...

By the way using a pocket without insert was a revelation to me too - thanks to a more experience cloth mama for telling me that on one of these types of boards (I think the BabyCenter one when I used to frequent that). I was dubious, but it works very well. And having the snaps/velcro does make it easier to deal with poop. In many swim classes/trips I've only had to deal with one proper poopy swim diaper though. :)

When my little one was super little we went to the beach and I was all excited and put on a swim diaper, even though only her toes would ever go in the water. What I learned - runny breast milk poop comes straight through a swim diaper..... something to watch out for!

I think Target only carries them in the summer - in the baby section near the kids swimming gear.

You can put the swim diaper on underneath an absorbant diaper to stop leaks while you go to he pool, but you do risk the child pooping before you get to the pool (unless you have a regular pooper). I usualy would change the baby at the pool - change yourself first, then the baby to keep them as warm as possible until you get into the water. Reverse the process when you get out so that baby is dressed first. I found my daughter got quite cold, even with the baby temperature water for the baby class.

Target doesn't have any right now.... I think they must have carried them last season. I asked at one of the stores and no one knew what I was talking about. It could be that they will carry them as we get closer to summer again. I have found that a lot of people have been selling theirs from last summer at children's consignment stores lately where I live.....

Quoting Lisa:

Target cloth swimmers work really well. They're fairly inexpensive and if you know that you will using them for the following year, you can pick them up real cheap at the end of the season!

Where did you find the Target cloth swimmers? I looked all over Target (with the diapers and with the baby stuff) and didn't find any.

How do you use your swim diapers? I find that I have to wait to put it on until we are at the pool (because it doesn't hold pee and he could have pee by the time we get there). I find this to be a real hassle! Any ideas on getting around that?

Wow I never thought of using a pocket with no insert but that would be great!!!  I have had both the target brand and Vimse and they both worked but I never did have to deal with poopie diaper!!  I am not going to get any this year since I have quite a few pockets that we are just about growing out of!!

Thank you

basically they are just a CD cover. seems like not much but when i asked they said it's just to keep poo in not pee (so are the disposable kind).

We have Bummis Swimmis, they are working great for us.

The one thing I think is important with a cloth swim diaper is that it have velcro or snap closures instead of just being a one-piece that you pull up like panties. It's SO hard to get them off when the kids are wet unless you can unhook them like a traditional diaper. I have a Bummis swim diaper and like it a lot.

If you have any pocket diapers you can just use the pocket (no insert) and it works fine. You might want to reserve one to be just for swimming. That's what we do - got a lime green fuzzi buns medium on sale once (presumably on sale because the colour is awful) and that is reserved as a swim diaper.

Also I remember Target even sells cloth swim diapers.... seems to be one area where it's mainstream to use cloth! Not sure about the quality - but they're a lot cheaper than more traditional cloth diaper brands.

I was going to recommend Imse Vimse.  I love them.  Remember, swim diapers are not meant to hold in pee, just poos. ;)
