I love my cloth wipes! I have some that are a single layer of flannel serged around the edges and I added to my wipe collection by cutting up an old receiving blanket. I use a squirt bottle with 8ish oz water, a tablespoon of baby shampoo, a tablespoon of olive oil, and a few drops of tea tree oil to wet them. As an added bonus, they freshen the smell inside the wet bag too!

YES YES YES!! Cheap baby washcloths w/out a border, like the 12 pack you can buy at walmart. The only way to go IMHO.

I have a bunch of extra microfiber inserts...could those be used as wipes?

I use cloth too. I just took some big flat diapers and cut them into 4 wipes - incredibly cheap and easy. And they work much better than disposable wipes!

I use them and love them!! I use both WAHM wipes made of flannel that I purchased and every single baby washcloth that was given to me by ppl. but.......my favorite are the bamboo baby washcloths that I purchased!! I LOVE THEM!!!! I make a wipe solution and place just enough wipes in for 2 days and keep them WET!! It is what works for me!!

Yeah there are a lot of pocket dipes with polyester fleece or microsuede liners that are also polyester. But they tend to irritate my lo's skin so we stick with cotton, or at least natural fibers.
As far as the wipes go, you can also buy a huge package of baby washcloths from Sams or Costco or something. This is the 3rd baby I've cd'ed and I think terry cloth "grips" the best, with a flannel or some other "smooth" side on the back.

If I can just jump in on this question and add my own...? I have been looking at these today on ebay and loads of them seem to be made from fleece, or fleece one side terry the other. Now fleece is used in the pocket diapers as it doesn't retain much moisture- surely this isn't ideal as a wipe?? Also fleece just doesn't feel... 'grippy' enough to be a good wipe. What have you guys found?
Woo hoo- have just looked through some old sheets just dumped on me today by MIL and there seems to ba a nice flannel one. Do people have a preference for size or number of layers, when sewing my own?
Yes the fleece is definitely 'grips' the poo. I use a fleece liner with my Fuzzi Bunz when I know my ds is going to 'go'. I think it also helps with the clean up since I use the front end of the liner as wipe followed by a clean wipe, of course. Then I just flick the poo in the toilet and throw in the wash with the diaper.
Wow, okay. So are yours polyester fleece or cotton fleece? I thought the inside of Fuzzi bunz was polyester fleece anyway? It's all very confusing. And this is just wipes! I can see why people are daunted when they start out CDing. I was lucky and just bought what I could afford off ebay auctions.
Yes, the inside of Fuzzi Bunz is polyester fleece. Additional use of a fleece liner not only helps with clean up, but also helps prevent staining of your diapers. You can make your own quite cheap by buying the fleece scraps from your fabric store. I paid $3 for a yard of polyester fleece. That's A LOT of liners! You can also make your own wipes from receiving blankets... I don't know about you, but I seem to have a ton of them! Simply sew a square with one side made of fleece, the other from a flannel receiving blanket.

Yeah! They're way easier than disposable, since you just throw them in the wash with the diapers. I use cottonbabies wipes at www.cottonbabies.com

My LO isn't here yet but my husband who's anti-cd'ing FREAKED when I told him we were using cloth wipes, too. But it just seems so much easier to throw them in with the dipes than have random poopy wipes floating around in the garbage.

WE use them and love them. My little has never had a diaper rash. On the rare occasion when we do use diposeables, it seems like we have to use more to get his little butt clean compared to the cloth wipes.

Is it cotton fleece? Cotton fleece is like sweatshirt material, but if it's microfleece then no, I don't think that would make a good wipe. I don't like polyester against my ds's bum...
I like wipes that are about 6x6" up to about 8x8" and 2 layers works for us.

Yes! It's much easier to use cloth wipes if you're already cd'ing. I got a pack of 50 cotton terry wipes from the Kissaluv's outlet for $35. We use them for cd'ing, wiping hands/faces - really just about anything. They're great. I dilute some California Baby diaper spray for a wipes solution and then squirt on with my peri bottle from the hospital. I just dump them in our wet bag and they get washed on laundry day.

I use them and I also LOVE them. You get to control the wetness of them and anything else that you want in them. I usually just keep them dry and then wet them with plain water when I need them. Some times I don't even need them to be wet, which is nice when baby's bottom is already irritated from being wet. I do have Kissaluvs Diaper Lotion Potion Concentrate, although I have not used it yet, so I can not tell you anyting about it other than it smells nice. I got my wipes and Lotion from http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com as well as all my diapers.
Hope this helps.

Yes, and love them - so much easier, cheaper, and less chemicals on my very sensitive DD's skin. I use mostly cheap baby washcloths, but do have some terry/flannel wipes from Blue Penguin (bluepenguin.biz). I keep dry wipes in an old wipes box and keep a squirt bottle (99 cents on the travel aisle at Target) of water on the changing table. Works great for us!
Thanks so much! I was thinking of those washcloths today when I was changing him, we have so many of them and I never use em! Now do they work really well? or do you find they leave skid marks on your hands because they are so thin?
The cloth ones clean better because they "catch" the poop which keeps it from smearing all over the place. I definitely prefer cloth for poop! In my experience, the baby wash cloths work just as well as most of the cloth wipes you buy. I will say that favorite for poop is Monkey Doodlez.

I love them and would never go back to using disposable ones. instead of using a whole wad of disposeable ones I only use I or 2 max at a change. I only use warm water on mine and this works great. My favs are Thirsties, they come in a pack of 6 in great colours! :o)

I just found out about a home made one you could make and the cost is way cheap, you have to use BOUNTY PAPER TOWEL. You cut it into 4's or just in half but all you use is 1 1/4cup of water and a squirt of baby shampoo and a squirt of baby oil it is so easy and they are great for being in public when the kids have eaten and you want to clean them up. and they work really well as a baby wipe too

Absolutely love my velour ones and my hemp ones. You only need one for the worst messes because they are cloth, they cling/grab the mess as you wipe. The dispoable ones slip and slid all over the mess requiring you to need more than one so often.

I use them with just plain water (i stop at the sink on my way to the change table). If we are out and there's no sink then I use disposable wipes.

We use face washers with water and a little bit of baby bath. Very easy like all the other mums here say. much gentler as you don't have to apply any pressure or rub repeatedly. And sooo cheap too.

We use baby wash cloths. It has been working well, we use baby bits solution to wet the wash cloth. Throw 'em in the wash with the diapers and you're set.
My MIL threw a fit over CDing anyway but the cloth wipes was some how worse. And then she tried it and was amased how much easier it was to clean even the really icky poo off and she didn't have to go through 4 or 5 throw aways. Just one wash cloth. :)
