I'm new to cloth diapering, so when I bought my diapers, I don't think I bought the right covers. I have some pocket BumGenius covers that were given to me, but I don't like the pocket inserts, I prefer the full diapers, but the covers are so bulky over them. Does anyone know of a good brand of just covers, WITHOUT pockets? Preferably somthing trim and not wool or fleece, since we live in a hot clime. Thanks!

My updated thoughts about wool: I like it. It's great for at night and naps. I have found that although PUL doesn't breathe, no wrap is going to fit so tight that there isn't circulation. My daughter's rash is not affected by wearing a PUL cover vs a wool cover. I'm still working on tweaking that darn wash routine!!! People use PUL covers because they are cheap and work with prefolds, contours, or fitteds, which can all be less expensive than AIO or pockets.

I must confess, I love the smell of my wool cover! Maybe it's the tea tree oil in the wash I use?

But I'm not a hater of PUL either.

so Jaclyn, I would like to direct you to my webpage http://www.niftynappybyvilate.weebly.com

There is tons of info about wool. Like these other ladies said it is very breathable and infact when it is hot it will help to cool your baby off through evaporation.

In my opinion I use fitteds because i want my baby's bum to be able to breath so she doesn't get rashes. If you throw on a PUL type cover over that they why not just go with an AIO? I use wool because it is natural, breathable easy to use and easy to care for.

hope this helps. If you have any other questions just feel free to ask!

Quoting Julie:

Thirsties work great! I have also heard good things about the bummis super brite covers. I have mostly the bummis super whisper wraps and I find they get damp around the leg openings. The Bum genius you have is actually a diaper(A great diaper!) did the person who gave it to you also give you inserts for them? They may not be overally trim tho..really dpends on babys size, but a great dipe!

I find the SAME thing about my Bummis wraps!!!!  I like the Thirsties because they do not wick moisture out at all.  The fit is fabulous.

As far as PUL covers go, the ONLY ones that have worked really well for my YDS are Thirsties. For ODS, my favorite was Mother-Ease Airflow. I also think that Imse Vimse is probably good too, but be aware that they run REALLY big, so the one imse vimse cover I have (which says it starts at 15 lbs) is still too big for my 19 pounder! I found that covers like Bummis didn't really have enough room to fit a diaper inside of it and still fit well around the babies' legs.

like pp mentioned, wool is breathable and will work well in hot climate. I'm not a fan of fleece though...

proraps are simple, cheap, and trim

I think the Thirsties cover is the trimmest. I love it. The Bummis wraps work great also, and honestly, for an extra cover if looks aren't a concern, the Prorap is an awesome wrap. I only use it around the house though because the tabs are bulky in the front. I use wool sometimes also, and it's totally breathable and not hot at all. Some CD moms have a variety of types of diapers in their stash for various needs or situations. Wool is breathable, PUL can be more trim, pockets and AI2s can be convenient. Prefolds are cheap but bulky (at least mine are ) and fitteds offer a more slim fit for your wool or PUL covers. Sophia sometimes runs around with just her fitted and no cover if we're home because I change her often anyways. I've never been into tha AIO at all, I absolutely don't get it, but ...

I love pockets for on the go or at home if I'm really busy because it is the fastest diaper change in the planet, and I never have an issue with leaks or wicking at all. It's relaxing to stuff pockets sitting outside enjoying some nature or (*gasp*) watching some midless television at night.

What diapers are you using, prefold or fitteds? Or one size fitteds? How old is your little one?

Good luck!

Have you searched around on hyena cart for wahm dipes? I think what your looking for is known as a cover, the one with the pockets in known as a pocket diaper.

A cover alone would not have any absorbant layers in it, so you will have to lay in an insert or put it over a fitted diaper.

Look around on hyenacart.com

First off--wool and fleece are perfect for hot climates. They are totally breathable.

Trimmer fitting diaper covers are ones made with a PUL lining. What comes to mind or Bummis and Thirsties. I know there are others, but I used Bummis & Thirsties before making the switch to all wool. I wouldn't totally discount those two. They are great for babies' butts.

Good luck!
