What type of diaper pail to you use... wet, dry, wet/dry? I will be using prefolds and covers. Any suggestions on type and brand would be great! Thanks in advance.

I agree: dry pail is simpler and has less chance of accidents. Myy pail is a 15 gallon pail from WalMart with a lid that snaps on, although since my LO isn't mobile yet, we don't use the lid currently. I'm using pillowcases as liners, so they can just be tossed in the wash.

i agree with Kimberly, I do dry, I have made a bag liner for mine though with PUL and I just throw it in the wash with the diapers. It works great!

I also use prefolds and covers, and I use a plain "Homer" 5 gallon bucket from Home depot that has a lid that I just "sit" on there. I don't add water. I haven't had any staining or anything. There is really no smell as long as the lid is placed on top. I love it! When I need to wash them at night I just dump the whole thing in the washer and go. Then I just spray the bucket with Lysol. When needed I wipe it down.

With prefolds you CAN use a wet pail if you want to, but I use a mix of prefolds, all-in-ones and pockets and I don't have any troubles with staining or orders and use a dry pail. I think the benefits to a dry pail are:
1. Less messy and no chance of an older child or baby once they crawl to knock it over or drown in it.
2. Cheaper pail. I purchased a plastic lidded Sterlite garbage can (11 gal. size, I think) from Target for about $10 instead of the $50 or more for a "real" diaper pail. If you wet pail you almost NEED to buy the more expensive styles because they are heavier duty and usually feature some type of safety lid.
3. You can dry pail anywhere. So if you travel you don't have to figure out how to use your dipes and a new system. I use a paper grocery bag with a plastic bag inside it or an old bucket when we go to our cabin.
4. Dry pail is really the ONLY way to go if you have a front loading washing machine.
I use powdered oxygen bleach, Allen's Naturally detergent and Biokleen's Bac-Out in my wash and don't have troubles with stains or odors, so I think you can skip the wet pail if you want to. :)
