Diaper Rash - question about creams

I'm so glad that I found this post! My daughter is going through the same thing and it is definitely related to the foods she is eating and her increase in eating solids. I ordered the Angel Baby Bottom Balm today and will try olive oil until it arrives. Thanks for the advice, I love the Cloth Diaper Forum on Circle of Moms!

I've used Boudreaux's butt paste on my daugther and it washed right out. I've also used Desitin Creamy (not the original kind) and it washed out too. When she starting to get a little red, I use A&D, which is more preventive and treatment. None have changed the absorbancy or stained the diapers.

I managed to mess up a whole batch of prefolds with Desitin, so I'm all over this topic. From what I've read, the ingredients to look out for are petroleum and fish oil. I dearly want to try Angel Baby bottom balm, but I can't seem to find it in my area. I found another organic/vegan cream, but of couse I can't remember what it's called...

So if you can't find Angel Baby, you should be good as long as there is no fish oil or petroleum in the cream. I believe pinstripesandpolkadots has a list of "approved" brands.

Thanks for the advice! I don't believe that its due to the diaper or the cover since we've been using the same system since she was born (she's six months old now). I think its teething related or perhaps due to solids since we've just started those.

i have a few comments....

1-if you choose to use a cream you can protect your diaper by using a fleece insert.  the fleece will get the cream and not your diaper.  all you need to do is buy 1/4 yrd of fleece at walmart and cut it into a rectangle big enough to fit in your dipe.

2-what type of diaper are you using?  is it a breathable one, with a breathable cover.  If not that could be where the rash is coming from!

Yes, be very very careful about what you apply to your babies bottom, as your diapers can become less absorbent or even ruined.



I am a HUGE HUGE fan of Earth Mama Angel Baby bottom balm. It is safe to use with cd's and I also use it for a variety of scrapes and small boo-boos on everyone in our family. It will heal a rash my son gets from teething, eating acidy solids (he loves oranges and tomatoes...but pays the price), or whatever. He's had a few doozy rashes, and the EMAB bottom balm will typically cure the rash overnight or in 1 day.



I also like Grandma El's, which is also safe to use with cd's. And also just plain old olive or almond oil are good, but usually work best as a skin conditioner to prevent diaper rashes. (I will usually give my boy's bum a thin layer of olive or almond oil for several diaper changes after he's eaten his fave acidy foods.)
