Wondering what is your favorite laundry detergent for cloth diapers? I have been using Allens natural and I'm not very impressed with it.

I use Wonderwash (I live in Canada, and I believe it's the same thing as Charlie Soap)...I love it. I've also heard that Nellie's Soap is really good, and not too expensive.

I use the Nellie's and love it!  I buy it at the Calgary Stampede every year, and the two tins last for the full year.

I love Rockin Green, but I only use it on the diapers...I can't afford to use it on all our laundry! I use Method or Seventh Generation for our clothes.

We have used Charlie's Soap the entire time. The only 'complaint' I have is it doesn't get out stains really well so you still should use either Shout or Charlie's Soap all purpose spray cleaner on stains (I'm talking about for our regular clothes wash as we use it on all our laundry.)

I use to use Charlies, but switched to Rockin' Green. I use it for all our clothes. They have a lot of fun scents. It smells delicious and it works well too:)

We use Country save for all our laundry and diapers. Rockin' Green for days when I want something fun smelling :)

I am currently using Biokleen powder (I didn't care for the liquid) and it works just fine. I also use white vinegar as a softener. Our washer is HE front loader, and this combo does well for us.

I've been using Crunchy Clean for over 2 months now and like it a lot. My friend has been using it for almost two years now and loves it as well. Crunchy Clean offers tons of scents which I'll be trying out with next order since I've been using unscented. Crunchy Clean is a home business too!

Seventh Generation Baby Biodegradable Ultra Laundry Liquid and Biodegradable Ultra Laundry Bleach, Non-Chlorine, Free & Clear! Good for the baby and the environment. Although I would say the bleach doesn't take out the stain 100%... maybe 95%, but I don't mind it.

Love love love Country Save. I use it on all of our laundry, washed in a front loader, and my prefolds still look brand new after six weeks of breast feeding poo!

I use Melaleuca 6X detergent ...

We use this too and it is AMAZING!!  It is made from natural more eco-friendly ingredients. Because it is so concentrated it is packaged in a smaller container and so there is less plastic to pollute our landfills. It also lasts a lot longer so we end up saving money over the grocery store and supercenter brands!!

Does anyone else use soapnuts? I've been washing all my clothes with them for about a year, and our CDs since Edison was born in July. So far, they seem to work really well, and our diapers don't have any odor. (I use an essential oil spray to give our other clothes a light scent, since my husband missed the smell of dryer sheets.)

You can google homemade detergent for recipes. Mostly it's washing soda, borax, and grated soap.

I'm interested in the homemade soap solution. I want to try it out and see if it works best for our family.

I love seventh generation... costco's all natural (liquid) is pretty good... The lady I get my diapers from recommended Country Save (powder) she said its awesome and really inexpensive. I bought a box but haven't used it because I still have others left over that I am going to use up first.

Quoting Marci:

I use the Charlie's soap too. I however don't like that it really doesn't take any stains out. My fiance accidently put our Tide in instead and my diapers that have had some staining were no longer stained. I was shocked. I continue to use the Charlie's since I did pay for it and I have heard not to use regular soap. I do also use vinegar for odor problems. It seams to work. Charlie's provides no odor remover so they don't really stay smelling fresh. I have also heard great things about Allen's but have not tried it. I think though it is basically the same product as Charlie's. Good luck.

If you are using both Charlie's and Tide in your washing machine, then your load of diapers probably aren't getting that clean for this reason: Charlie's is clean-rinsing and leaves no residue.  Tide does.  So when you wash with the Tide, it leaves built up residue in your washing machine.  When you go to do a load of diapers, the Charlie's is working to clean both your diapers AND on the residues in your machine.  This residue that comes off during your diaper laundry is probably also landing right on all your diapers, so you're really headed for some serious detergent build up on your diapers ... yucky, stinky!  Just try to switch over to Charlie's for all of your laundry and see how that goes in a couple weeks.

I think Tide may be one of the detergents with brighteners, so it *looks* cleaner and brighter, but it's just a residue that optically bends the light to look whiter.  It's not really cleaner.

Because Charlie's has no scent, it's easier to tell if your diapers are really clean.  Put your diaper right up to your nose.  Should smell like NOTHING or if you have city water, maybe a little bit like chlorinated city water.

If you are still having issues, it could be because you are using synthetic diapers.  I have no problems cleaning my all cotton diapers, but I gave up on my synthetic (microfleece and microfiber inserts) after about month 3?  It was just too much work, too many wash and rinse cycles and was taking over my life.

UInbleached cotton is my favorite because it shows *no* stains, in my experience.  My Cover Your Clovers (www.Precious.Dignity.com) have never, ever gotton a stain, same with my unbleached prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers.

Oh, and I also use OxyClean Free in the hot wash to disinfect.

i make my own laundry soap for my diapers have for years and i also use it for all of the rest of our clothes. not only is it safe for cloth diapers it is a ton cheaper. i save over 900 bucks a year by making my own. there are many homemade detergents out there both powder or liquid form. i prefer powdr just because it takes alottttt less time to make. i also use vinegar instead of fabric softener clothes come out smelling clean and fresh as well as the diapers. hope this helps if you decide you want recipes for laundry soap let me know and i will get them for you(i run a blog that has all my recipes on it for every cleaning suply you can imagine)

I love BioKleen but usually use Purex F&C. Recently I received a sample of Rockin' Green and I think I'm going to make the switch to theirs. The smell is out of this world and my diapers after two years and many different wash routines finally don't smell (yucky well water).

I use Green Mountain (it was on the list given to me by the woman who sold me my diapers as being safe for BumGenius). They make a baby free and clear and it's super concentrated. I have a front loader and it's "he" too! I love it. We use it for all our laundry now, and they well the concentrate in refill bags so you don't need to buy a plastic container every time you need it. It seemed pricey at first, but when you figure out how little you actually use for each load, it works out to be a great value. Good luck.
