I didn't start using cloth until my older daughter was bigger and bought bum genius one size, which I like, but will buy snaps instead of velcro next time around. I have been using disposables on my newest but I am really hating them! I don't want to spend a bunch of money on tiny diapers I won't use for long, but I'm sick to death of putting a new diaper on only to have her poop in it and immediately throwing it away. I'd love to hear what you girls use and love. Thanks!

With newborns, the poo is so runny it just gets everywhere, so I really liked a fitted to start. I used a combination of Kissaluvs size 0 and Fuzzibuns extra small. I also used prefolds, but be prepared to wash the cover everytime as well. The Kissaluvs fitteds held the poop in and kept the cover clean.

I use baby beehinds in the one size for all. Bit tricky on tiny newborns but adjustable to suit. Using some disposables in the inclement weather till nappys dry out! Lol!

I just used prefolds and prorap covers until my daughter was 3 months and then I switched to Kissaluvs during the day and prefolds at night.

Quoting Erica:

I like G diapers, anyone else use them? They're great and really not that expensive. They are a kind of compromise between the ease of disposables and the mess of all cloth. They have an all paper, no plastic, FLUSHABLE disposable liner that goes in their reusable "g pants". I REALLY like using them and once you pay for the cloth pants, the cost for the refills is actually cheaper than paying for a diaper service or buying regular disposables. The best part is my daughter NEVER has diaper rash anymore since we switched to these! www.gdiapers.com if you wanna check em out =)

I am not trying to be rude but there really is no "mess" with cloth. i think there's more with G diapers because you have to rip the inserts before you flush them. with cloth you can just use a diaper sprayer and you dont have to touch anything! you wash them just like a normal load and you're done.  also G diapers are more expensive.

I've tried a few different kinds of diapers, and I just keep coming back to plain old prefolds... easiest to use, to wash and to care for. You can fold them this way and that to fit your baby just right. I use a snappi with it.

I didn't start using cloth diapers until my girl was 3 months old. As my first child, I wanted to figure out motherhood before I tackled cloth diapers. When I switched to cloth, it was the best move I made - A LOT easier than I thought it was going to be. I use a one-size AI2 (diaper with removable inserts) that I found on E-bay. They're called "Nature's Love" - they're one size (up to 35 pounds I think), they're ORGANIC cotton, they have snaps, and they're inexpensive. I bought 12 for around $80. The seller is out of Miami. I really, really love mine!

I used my one sizes on her this afternoon and they seemed to work fine. No big poop though so I don't know if they will hold it all in since they are a little loose on her little baby legs. I'll definitely need a few more, though, if both girls are using them. We are working on the potty with my older daughter, but she's so young still it will be awhile. She seems very proud of herself when she uses the potty though, so that is encouraging! :)

Good point Malinda, and gdiapers does caution about those issues on their website. However, we use the swish stick that it comes with to make sure that they're broken up properly before flushing. Also, with cloth you either pay someone to wash them, or wash them yourself which *is* much messier than tearing apart the liners, even if she's got a nasty one, you can always find some part of it that doesn't have poo on it to tear it up. Anyway, they might not be for everyone, but we have a low flow toilet that uses less water per flush and they work great for us. Hope this helps!

My caution about g-diapers is that they are not flushable if you are on septic or have older plumbing. They must also be torn apart to flush properly, which to me is just as or more messy than cloth. The refils are also more expensive per than Pampers in our area, but that may change from state to state. We do use them when we travel, but we never flush them (I would hate to be liable if something went wrong at a hotel!).

My second child is due in August and we bought a few Thirsties pockets (SO soft! But not one-size and use velcro), Fuzzibuns One Size pockets (also SOO soft, use snaps, and one-size, but I have a feeling they will look pretty funny on a newborn all bunched up at the smallest size and will likely not fit inside most onsies), and some Pre-Folds with Thirsties covers. Based on what I've heard from others my impression is that we'll be using the pre-folds/covers the most, just because we're going to need a lot of them, and save the pockets for when company is over and we need something they can handle, too. And then gradually I'm sure the Fuzzibuns will be more usable as baby grows.

Good Luck! How great that we have so many options! In the old days it was pretty much flat cloth and rubber pants.....

We use the BumGenius 3.0 (one size) as well. When we first brought my daughter home we used tri-fold cloth diapers and pins and used the BumGenius (without insert) as a diaper cover. It will just depend on how big your little one is.

Have you tried the bum genius one size on your newest? I'm just curious b/c we're having another in 8 wks or so and I'm planning to use those and other one size pockets on him but don't know how well those'll fit...how big is yours? When our first one was just born we used prefolds and NB size covers, bummis, and they worked good but we want to switch to one size pockets now.

When my son was a neborn we used a mix of prefolds and covers, fuzzi bunz pockets, and bum genius AIO. They worked well on his small body. Now that he is older we use bum genius AIO, Bum genius one size, and fuzi bunz.
