I just got some G-diapers from someone else, and was wondering if anyone has used prefolds or other liners in them instead of the disposables or the ones they sell for too much money?
(and I do have the plastic liners in them...) =)
Thanks!

I haven't tried them, but there is an alternative to the gCloth called G-Flappers, but they are even more expensive ($4.50-6.50 a piece I think). If you got the $4.50 ones that would save you a bit more money. The g-flappers are at The Nappy Shoppe online.
Also, there is a yahoo group for g-diapers that you might be interested in. The gals there always have great advice.

I use homemade inserts, NB prefolds and flats in ours, i agree the flushies are really expensive, and we can't use them since they have SAP as well but basically I use what ever fits in the liner, just make sure you get a good seal on the liner.

I don't personally use gDiapers (I prefer a different cloth system) but one of the Moms in my playgroup does and she just uses the Organic Gerber prefolds from Target. They're a lot smaller than my Chinese Prefold (Premium size) and are only slightly less absorbent. Those would run about $12 for 6.

I use prefolds in my gdiapers most of the time. I bought one pack of the g-cloth inserts when they came out with them, but they aren't that much thinner than the prefolds and are much more expensive. The prefolds work fine, you just want to make sure you buy the newborn prefolds so you won't have to fold them in the front. Mine have green edges and fit perfectly, but I can't remember what brand they are...hope that helps.

I use a Chinese prefold in my gDiapers. They are actually less bulky than most of my other diapers (Bum Genius). I have size medium and use a newborn size prefold. They fit perfectly. I started doing this way before they had the gCloth inserts; otherwise I think I would have bought them. Still, it works fine.

I know people that use the green mountain prefolds as well in the gdiapers, which is BULKY but cheapers. A dozen GMD prefolds cost around $25. 2 dozen MAX and you are set. I too think 30 bucks for 6 diapers in a bit pricey. A Sam's pack of Huggies only costs $40 and you get over 100, sometimes close to 200 depending on the size.

There are however, mamas that sew that can make you special insert that are the same size and shape as the flushable liners. They cost about the same price or LESS depending on the mom and they are washable and reuseable so you don't have to keep putting money into the system week after week. Buy however many inserts you want, one time and you are done.
Check www.diaperswappers,com under the WAHM section. I know you will be able to find several mamas that sew the inserts.

i use gDiapers and I have only used the gCloth inserts. I don't feel like $30 for 6 inserts is too much, and if you order them on Amazon you can get a case of the flushables for $44. I looooove the system!

I do have some friends who have used Green Mountain Diapers prefolds in the gDiapers with some sucess. It's bulky though, and ends up running you a higher cost than investing the in gCloth.
