Hi!

Has anyone used Gro Baby or gDiapers?

We'd like to have a few on hand for when we're out and about, or when our daughter-to-be is with cloth-phobics. Just wondering if anyone had used them and what they're like, and how anyone found them on newborns.

Thanks!

Don't be to quick to jump on the Gro Baby diapers, they are a great AIO diaper for babies who don't move. We tried them on our son for a couple months and they impeded his rolling a lot to the point where he was getting frustrated and pissed off. We switched to Gdiapers after a recommendation and they work great because he is a bigger boy and his chub "seals" the diapers.

BumGenius 3.0s are a very good pocket dipe but again bulky, try and find one that has a good seal but is also slim fitting.

Tried a gDiaper once, not impressed, leaked with the tiniest poo despite great fit, and messier clean up. A cloth AIO would be better for phobics, I am loving Fuzzi Bunz OS(I just stuff inserts as soon as they are dry, so then they work like an AIO). I think most any AIO/pocket would work just as well for the weary though. If you are doing sized, I hear great things about Bum Genius 3.0 AIO.

We use G Diapers for traveling, weekends away, etc and love them. DH wasnt thrilled about them but after a full tutorial he's gotten the hang of it :-) He loves our pockets.

BG's are no longer available in Canada or shipping to canada. So i was told at the store in town that use to sell them. They were the ones I wanted :( I too looked into G diapers. Thought they would be a great option. So they may still end up in my baby's room. I am in Ontario.

There are still a number of places selling BG's (I'm also in Ontario) I believe that they just changed suppliers and are shipping directly from the manufacturer and not using a middle man... Also the Flip and Econobum are great options as well. I want to know more about Gro Baby but nobody local carries them and I'm afraid to buy sight unseen. The BG's are fantastic though!

I use the gdiapers and actually love them!!! My daughter was 7 months old when I finally got my hubby convinced to let me try them. They are great for out and about, or when she has loose bms. They are convient and aren't all that expensive.

gDiapers are the best! They now offer both flushable inserts and cloth, so you can use cloth at home, and the flushies while out and with caregivers. I love them!

I have used GDiapers and GroBaby. I thought I would love Gdiapers, but found that I did not like the velcro and we had lots of leaks. I love my GroBaby sytem, perfect trim fit, and no leaks. At Diaper Junction, you can test drive both systems and see which you prefer!

I use Gro Baby exclusively and like them just fine. They have cute prints and their cloth soakers are much better than gCloth. They also sell disposable biosoakers for travel. I think the quality of the Gro Baby shells are also much better than the gPants. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for all the responses!

The Gro Babies are looking really interesting.

Natalie, would the Gro Baby diapers be good on most newborns? How many shells do you tend to go through in a day (ie., ones that are so soaked/soiled that they need washing)? What, basically, would you recommend as a "starter kit" with the Gro Babies (shells, soaker/booster)?

Thanks in advance! :)

I bought the "Live Gro Baby" package and I recommend it for anyone who wants to use the system full time. It comes with 12 shells, 24 soakers, and 16 booster pads. We went through  alot of shells at first with DS's breastfed poo. The shells would get soiled almost every other diaper change and we went through all 12 of them every 2 days.

Now that he's older and on solids we go through about a shell every day. Usually just the nighttime one that gets so soaked it would be smelly to use. I'm sure I could just unsnap the soaker and rinse off the shell instead and it would be fine without being put in the wash.

We do go through all 24 soakers every two or three days, still. But we only really use one booster, just for his nighttime diaper.

Still, wearing and washing does break down the diapers eventually, so I'm glad to still have 12 shells to go through so they stay nice longer.

They fit DS when he was a couple weeks old, at 8 lbs. No leaks. They were a bit bulky, though. I also noticed that the front panel would tend to ride up on his umbilical area, so I wouldn't recommend them for a newborn with a healing stump to worry about still.

One other thing. I purchased some Flip disposable inserts (much less expensive than the Gro Baby biosoakers) and they work perfectly in the Gro Baby shells! They probably don't contain breastfed poo as well as the biosoakers (which have elastic gussets) do, but they absorb pee and poo just as well as a tri-folded prefold does. :)

I am also looking at gro baby for travel but it would cost about what we have already spent on our current system, which we love, to have enough to travel with. We are going to visit friends for a week or so in a couple of months and I don't want to have to pack an entire suitcase of cloth diapers to check. We use Mother-Ease contours with Thirsties covers and love them. Other reviews of gro baby lead me to believe you need about 1 cover per 2 inserts so for full time, about 12 covers and 24 inserts. I assume this depends on how frequently your baby has a BM because you cannot reuse the cover without washing it first after a BM, but I have also heard if baby is a heavy wetter you need to replace covers a LOT more often. We use about two covers a day with our system and I think I am too picky about not reusing a cover enough to use gro baby. However, I have heard the covers are great and can be used with any contour diaper so I may get one or two and use the disposable inserts occasionally. I like that you can dispose of them in many different ways. Also would be good for the flight when we need to pack light.

I have 2 grow baby shells and they seem to last for 1 day unless of course Emma poops and it gets on the shell I really would recommend have 3 just in case. I also have a total of 6 of the cloth inserts. I dont really need the boosters because my baby is not a really heavy wetter but I would recommend one for overnight use. I would prob want to have at least 2 more of the cloth inserts for a days worth of diapers but thats just me. Hope this helps.

i use the g diaper to go out in because u just throw the inserts out. The only thing i dont like is if they get a little wet the r done and they leak if u dont get the pad just right or it bunches the flip u can just wip off.The flip is just like the g diaper but it uses snaps and comes with cloth inserts and u can buy diposable for going out or just to use.

I havnt tryed gro baby so i couldnt tell you.

But i love flip. Also the new bg is great its called bumGenius! DELUXE V3.0 All-In-One. it has a sewn in pad but also has a pocket so u can put another one in for extra soakege

We tried Gdiapers and they were fine, but they did leak around the legs sometimes if the liner slipped. they were really trim under clothes so I liked that. I have never tried gro baby

We use BG 3.0's too (they're great for people who know nothing about cloth diapering) and use them exclusively but I talked with my sister in law who said that her nanny baby used gDiaper's and thought they were great. Only issue is they didn't always breath very well around the legs and the baby, who already had sensitive skin, frequently got a rash.

Like Liz Im Loving the BG 3.0 I really think there great and my DH is loving them as well. We have about every WAHM diaper we can find (because they were cheeper) but in the long run I wish I would of invested into all BG 3.0 diapers. Even my cloth-phobic best frind loves them. I do know another mommy that love love loves the gDiapers. Good Luck!

I was really keen to try the Gdiapers when my son was born last December - unfortunately they were not shipping outside the US at that time so I had to try another kind. Ended up going with BumGenius 3.0 (which have proved excellent), but still think the Gdiapers would have been a great crossover between between cloth/eco-disposable. Good luck!
