HELP! I need suggestions for the best cloth training pants. What brands do you like? Is it better to buy the vinyl coated ones or buy plastic diaper covers in addition to cloth training pants. I want to start this weekend. My son just turned 3 and I have decided we are finished with diapers.

we are using gerber training pants. They don't have a waterproof layer, so we're just doing this at home. We had a real battle every time I said to go try to go potty, but now we use a timer. Every thirty minutes, the timer goes off and he has to go try to pee in the potty. That has worked for the last couple of days. I like the training pants cause they have more absorbancy in the middle than regular undies for kids and he can usually catch himself as he starts to pee and get to the potty by the time he finishes....so I have a long line to clean up, but he's getting the idea. :)

Yes for cloth training pants, they are more of a pain, but they (unlike the disposibles) make them feel wet. I used the imsie vimsie trainig pants and they were great. Much better then the ones that are just cloth. They have a waterproof/terry cloth liner but cotton around the leg holes. They did not make everything completely dry, but you don't get puddles either. Basically we would have to change pants, but everything else stayed dry. If we were home they were great, if we were out, you can put the plastic pants over them or use the disposibles.

We used the cloth training pants with a seperate vinyl cover for a VERY short time. They were ok if he only peed once but anything more than that was a mess. If you are very serious about getting him trained you should get some "big boy" underwear and let him wear those (with no pants) around the house. Take him to the potty frequently and you won't have to worry about accidents. Also, if the underwear have a character you can tell him "don't pee on (whoever)!!" this worked for me!

Well if your son isn't ready all you'll get is a bunch of unnecessary frustration and accidents everywhere. That said there is no perfect brand it's what fits and performs well for you and your son. I would say try the disposable kinds first to see if he is ready but he needs guidance first and foremost.
