How do I make this work?

We've been doing cloth diapers since about 2 months and my son is now almost 11 mos old. We've had nothing but problems though. :/
I bought Thirsties diaper covers, prefolds, and use snappis. I don't know if I am doing it wrong or if the covers are just really crappy but I have to change my little man every half hour or so. And even then most of the time he has wet right through the cover. We go through 3 or 4 outfits a day easily. I do so much laundry... lol

So the question is am I missing something? -I'm kind of just learning as I go. Or what? I'm not thinking it should be this hard!

My husband wasn't that big on actually doing the EC himself, though he really supported me doing it! So, for my first it was like a "part time" thing & my husband became more involved in it after he turned one & was walking really well & was able to get on & off his own potty. It worked great for my older son, however my second one wont be bothered with it...I think it can depend on the kid :)

Thank you for the advice. My hubby and I have been talking about EC. We both work opposite shifts so the little man won't have to do Daycare. I just don't know if Daddy is ready to tackle that! lol

I use G pants with folded up (into thirds) pre-fold birdseye cotton white diapers as the soakers. I rarely have it come through unless they are sleeping. The pre-folds were fairly cheap. You can get them (and the rubber pants that Teresa mentioned) at any baby store like Toys R Us, Target, etc.

Also, could I suggest EC or early toilet training? If he's walking, you might want to start if you can get his pee schedule down. I did this with my son when we switched him to cloth (I wasn't too serious about it though) & it did save on the laundry. Best of luck, lady!!

Ok. Awesome. I will try that. I hadn't even considered that he was a heavy wetter. He does go through a lot of diapers. lol Glad it's not all me. :)
Any suggestions on where to find these?

Yeah something isn't right. You may have a heavy wetter on your hands or maybe your diapers aren't good enough. What kind of prefolds are you using? If they aren't good quality, I can see you having the problems you are having. If he is just a heavy wetter, used a booster or doubler to catch the extra output. Hemp doublers are trim and so absorbent but even just another folded up diaper will work just fine.

I have never used thirsties covers. With my first 4 kids I used pull on rubber pants. They were CHEAP and effective.
