I'm expecting my third baby in less than 6 weeks. I always used disposables for my first two kids. I really want to use cloth for the new baby but am completely clueless when it comes to cloth diapers. I've been doing a lot of research and think I want to go with an all in one (I need something super easy for my husband or he'll refuse to use them!!). But I don't want to spend a fortune either. What interior do you recommend? What brands? What websites? Bummis has a starter box, is that the best way to go? I was also looking at SposoEasy and FuzziBunz. I like the idea of snaps better than velcro. The expertise of you CD moms would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks much!!

One thing I'll add about prefolds - I used these for most of my son's life and loved them too, until he got older and would not lay still for a diaper change to save his life! Then that extra 2 seconds to fold the prefold and attach the snappi made a big difference. I like pockets/fitteds/etc... better now because I can even put them on when he is standing up. :) Don't know if others have had issues with a squirmy kid (he's 1.5 yrs) but that's why I'm switching (one reason among many) to pockets.

I've been very happy with prefold diapers and covers with velcro closings. I got my diapers from the Granitesmith store on ebay, and covers from Diaperaps (the site is now called babysorganicnursery.com). The label on the covers says you can machine-wash them, but I found that they seemed to hold up better if I hand-washed them.

I also tried some covers with snaps, but you can't adjust them as they just close where the snaps are. I liked the velcro better because I could fit it exactly right around my baby's waist & legs.

Good luck and enjoy cloth diapering!

I have used Bummis Whisper Wraps for 2 babies and both my hubbie and I love how easy they are. Put the diaper on/in the cover and velcro the tabs. Just a few seconds longer than disposables. You can get them online & they have white, frog, flower, rainforest or spots on the covers. After about a year of use we had to buy more covers because the velcro wore out, but the covers were still in good shape, otherwise! We just bought regular pre folded diapers from Target, and then doubled them when our oldest started soaking through with big pees.

Ok so I too like pockets over AIO's because of the drying factor but AI2's are great because they dry as fast as pockets. I love fitteds and have even when I could not afford them!! I like fitteds and wool or fleece covers. But for ease for your DH I would go with pockets because they are most like disposables as long as you do the stuffing. Diaperswappers is a great place to try out different combos to decide what you like. There are so many to chose from, HAVE FUN!!!

The easiest kinds are AIO's and some of my fav's are Swaddlebees and Thirsties. The only drawback is they take longer to dry than pocket diapers. Fuzzibunz are pocket diapers and are my favorite kind. I love snaps better than velcro and like that you can adjust the fit with the snaps. Also G diapers are something you might want to check out. Its a cloth cover with a snap in liner and then you stuff it with either cloth or their flushable inserts. I use these when out and about and traveling. Here are some websites for you to check out. www.thirstiesbaby.com www.swaddlebees.com and www.gdiapers.com
Good luck!!

I loved the Kissaluv fitteds for my son when we was a newborn. You have to use covers with fitteds, but we bought some really cute ones. We also used XS Fuzzi Bunz. Later the Small Fuzzi Bunz were our favorites (because of all the colors), but now we mainly use Bumgenius One-Size Organic AIOs or pockets. I bought most of our diapers used online and sell them as they are outgrown or decide I don't like a diaper.

I love pockets, specifically Fuzzi Bunz for many reasons already mentioned.. easy to use, control of absorbency, fast drying. Good Luck!

I have a webpage that I designed with tons of CD info on it

http://www.niftynappybyvilate.weebly.com

as for preferences. I wish when i had started that I had the diaper i do now. I use a snap fittted diaper with a hemp absorbent layer and a hemp/bamboo lay-in insert. and A wool cover! I love the wool, I love the absorbency of the hemp and bamboo. I have not had any leaks since we started this new system. I wish i had it with the first of my 6 instead of the last 2! I recommend going with the little bit more expensive and having a nice diaper from the beginning! :) I would avoid anything that is AIO or Pocket cause they have a PUL or other waterproof layer and aren't as breathable. *Even if they say they are! Then the baby is more prone to rashes cause there is no air circulation to let the wetness out.

I make and sell my nifty nappy on my etsy shop. http://www.vilatesniftynook.etsy.com

I offer a dicount of buy 5 get $10 off.

Good luck I hope you find what is great for you and that you love your experience!

Pockets over AIOs! They go on like an AIO but the absorbant bit comes out to dry quicker and you can adjust the inserts to suit your child. I have lots of types but really love bumgenuis 3.0.

I found that there are many great tutorials on the web for making your own along with free patterns! I have made loads of diapers and love doing it! I found that AIO are really slow to dry, no good if you dont live somewhere warm ( i live at the beach and its always freezing here) or you dont have a clothes dryer! By making them myself i have found that they are no where near as expensive as when you pay for them individually! here is a few of the sites I have used:

Hope you find this helpful if you have any questions give me a tingle!
Best of luck!

May I recommend www.diaperswappers.com where you can buy/sell/trade cloth diapers. Many of them are used but taken very good care of and that way you could sample different styles without investing a lot of money. I've gotten a whole stash of swaddlebees from mommas off of the site. I myself like pockets because you can adjust the absorbancy--only an hour until bath time, okay a not so thick insert--oh he needs a nap, I better stick in an extra one. Although I like pockets, I love making AIOs. For some reason they are a little easier for me to make. *throws hands up* Not sure why. I've never had flushable liners, but I line every diaper with a microfleece liner. The poop just slides right off--except for when my sister gives him popcorn; I think he is allergic because that is a MESS.

They are soo soo easy fun and cute!! you will love it. I would recommend pockets over AIO's because you can adjust their absorbency (by stuffing more or less) and they dry much faster. I LOVE this website for information about cloth diapers:

http://jilliansdrawers.com/newtocloth

But also you could look at the reviews section of diaperpin.com to learn more about specific brands.

i wish i had known when i started that you don't have to buy all of the same brand! there is no ONE diaper that is the best. there are a lot of great ones out there so i'd get a couple of different brands. variety is nice in your stash.

If i could start again i'd get some AI2's (I have mostly fitteds and pockets and way too many diapers to be getting more! ha ha).

I work with The Natural Baby Company - we make Gro Baby, Deam Eze AIO, and Magic Stick. If you want an AIO, I would go for Dream Eze. They are super trim and CERTIFIED organic cotton.

I have personally used a lot of cloth diapers (even before I started working for the company) and Dream Eze are my favorite! Cloth may seem expensive up front, but I promise, quality pays. We, by far, have the highest quality on the market. Our fabric is super innovative (we worked with designers from Patagonia, Burton, Oakley), so outdoor technology is in our diapers.

So, remember, diapers are just like any other piece of cloth and with lots and lots of washing, the diapers will get worn. So, buy a supply that lasts. You will still save money - that I can promise!!! Disposables as you know, cost approx. $70 p/mo and cloth even sizing up 2 or 3 times will only cost you $20 to $30 per month!!!

Let me know if you have more questions, I'm here!

I use Kushies with my daughter. I have been using them with her for a year now and I love them. Just make sure to invest in the flushable liners. They'll save you a lot of time and work when it comes to the poopy diapers.
