I wanted to try cloth diapers with my son but as soon as he pees he feels it and it wakes him up. I don't mind changing him every hour but it really upsets him. He's only 6 weeks old and to keep him from wetting through them I have to double the liners (I use Dappi) and with the liners it makes the diaper really thick and uncomfortable looking. He can't move in them with it doubled. I don't have a lot of money and all my friends who use CD keep suggesting liners I just can't afford. Help please. Does anyone have any ideas on a liner that he won't be prone to wet through and won't be too thick.

I would go buy some micro chamois fleece and cut it into strips to use in his diaper. IMO it's worth getting some disposable/flushable ones too. I get the GroVia kind and if my daughter only pees in them I wash them. They stand up to at least one washing so out of a roll of 200 I get about 350 uses out of them. I don't know about other brands though.

Also, since the wetness wakes him up, I recommend buying microfleece fabric from your local fabric store like hobby lobby. Cut it into strips wide enough to lay inside the diaper. This will wick moisture away from baby and keep him feeling dry.

For maximum absorbency I recommend adding a hemp or bamboo insert / liner. This will increase the absorbency of the diaper without adding bulk (i.e. bamboo and hemp are very trim but very thirsty). I personally like Pooters One Size hemp inserts and they're pretty cheap ($3 each, less if you buy more). You may also check out sites like swapmamas and diaperswappers for gently used hemp and bamboo inserts to save even more money.
