So I was just curious if anyone had used their cloth diapers since day one? I've heard a lot of ppl say that they wouldn't fit their littles until around 2-3 months...? Did anyone has any fitting problems with newborns?
If so what brand? Or system was it?

I used cloth diapers from about day 4. (Would have been day one but my plans for a natural birth center birth didn't work out and I had to have a C-section. We used sposies until we ran out of the pack of diapers from the hospital.) My LO was born 8 lbs 5 oz, and was about 7 lbs. 13 oz. when he came home.

We had about 18 Kissaluvs size 0 and 6 XS Thirsties Fab Fitteds, and used Thirsties XS covers. They fit him great from the beginning. With ODS I used disposables and went through 4-5 outfits a day due to poop blow-outs (and ruined a lot of clothes in the process; I don't think I EVER had a blow-out in the cloth diapers. (I did once when he was older and in Bum Genius, but never in the fitteds.)

We switched to Bum Genius one-size pockets when he was a month old as he had outgrown the XS Thirsties covers-- he grew VERY FAST (averaged 1 lb and 1 inch per week for the first 5 weeks) so when he hit 12 lbs and the covers were too small he had *just* started fitting the BG's pretty well. I already had a full stash of them so I just went with those instead of buying small covers, even though the Kissluvs still fit.

I've CDed since day one. I used Infant prefolds and my sister made fitteds for him. They were very similar to Kissaluvs size 0. I used Bummis whisper wraps in size NB as well as some wool covers that my sister made. Both felted and knit. They fit him fine from birth. I didn't use any OS until he was more like 4 weeks. I used GroBaby's at that point and the smallest setting fit him then. I think he would have been swimming in it at birth though.

We just used newborn prefolds. She out grew them so quick I couldn't image spending a lot of money on anything else. We use the prefolds as inserts now. They are the perfect size and are good for extra absorbency when we are going to have the diaper on for while.

We have cloth diapered since birth....we use Dappi Diapers (fitted w/ a rubber pants cover). I bought them off eBay for a great price. Bought all we need thru potty training for under $350.

We used flats at first - the ultimate in adjustability and affordability :) We had small size Bummis and Thirsties and Motherease covers and they all fit from birth (even though she was under the weight range to start with). I also had a Blueberry pocket and an Itti Bitti D'Lish, both size small, that fit pretty much from when her umbilical cord fell off. All my OSFAs were too big till a couple of months in though.

I cloth diapered since birth! I used Motherese sandys XS as well as prefolds and Bummis NB and XS motherease covers. The one size diapers were really too big on my 6lb 12 oz baby.

My son has been in cloth from birth!! He wasn't a hospital birth, so he didn't even go into disposables immediately following birth, just cloth. (Yes, I know that's a stupid thing to be all happy over, but I'm easily amused. LOL)

Anyhow, we bought Kissaluvs size 0 and Bummi's (size NB) covers for him to use at first. We would have skipped it had we known he'd be born 9 pounds 9 ounces, and would fit his Bum Genius dipes, infant sized prefolds, and size small covers right away. He completely outgrew his newborn dipes within a couple weeks, so we did not get our money's worth out of them at all. We'll use them for the next one for probably just a couple weeks also, and then some lucky person will receive them, in nearly new condition, as a hand-me-down and hopefully get much more use out of them than we did.

Anyhow, like I said, the BG's have worked great for our boy right from birth, but we have the other problem. He's now 13 months old, and will soon outgrow them in height. (He's VERY tall.) That's the thing with most of the one-size systems, and BG's for sure. They either don't fit at birth, or they outgrow them before they're anywhere near ready to potty train. There are probably some unfortunate souls out there that have both issues in one kid! LOL

But yeah, BG's worked great from birth for us.

I put my 2-week-old son in small Swaddlebees today without leaks. He's kinda a big boy and already weighs over 9 pounds. I would have started last week, but they hit his umbilical cord.

Arielle,
We started using the 3 in 1 Bum Genius when our son was just over a month old, we did have a leaking problem for a while in the begining so maybe we started using them too soon.

We started with smartipants, which were way too big for our newborn. We switched to GroBaby diapers, which fit her great, even at only two weeks (7lbs)

We found the Bumgenuis 3.0 to be way to big for our newborn. Even at its smallest setting, they came nearly up to his armpits. Our son was 6 pounds, 15 oz. at birth. We felt we should at least wait until his umbilical cord was completely clear. After that, the Bumgenius seemed to work fine. They didn't start leaking until much later in his life. Now that we have another one on the way, however, we think we are going to try some inexpensive newborn prefolds with ProWrap liners to get everything going until the little one grows into the Bumgenius,

I use the Bambino Mio diapers and they have a "newborn" size. My little one was 9 lbs 7oz at birth, so i skipped the newborn size and started her in "small" diaper covers. I LOVE the whole system. They are pricey up front, but i think they are well worth it. You can order through www.mommygear.com - my fav store- they are super helpful there.

if you use a one size diaper it has 3-4 different sizes on them which will fit newborns. they are a bit more investment at first but you wont have to buy any other sizes because they will fit until like 35 lbs which by that time the child may be ready for training pants.so its really worth the initial investment.Bumgeniuos 3.0 one size are lovely and they come with 2 inserts. however i do suggest using disposables for the first 2-3 days until the meconium is gone because that can really stain your diapers. good luck!

I used kissaluvs size 0 and swaddlebees newborn organic fitted with thirsties XS or bummis NB sized covers. My baby was 7 pounds at birth and these fit her great at the beginning. The swaddlebees fit until about 4 months (13 pounds) and the kissaluvs until almost 15 pounds. The Bumgenius one-size pockets I used as a nighttime diaper at about 2 months, but not during the day until she outgrew the others, as they were riduculously bulky on her tiny body. In general I like fitteds and covers better than pockets, they leak less and you don't have to stuff them after washing.

i didnt start using cloth until mine was 5 months, becasue he went to work with me until then. I was not willing to make the time/energy commitment for cloth until I was a stay at home mom, but also becasue until he was 4 months or so he pooped 4-6 times per day. Newborns it's about 10 times per day! That adds up to a TON of very dirty cloth diapers for when you are already exhausted and overwhelmed with a newborn at home. I think most moms switch to cloth after they have their heads back on straight post-partum. I especially am glad I waited to switch since I had a c-section and 7 months later I am still having pain- there was no way that in those first crazy months I could ahve delt with cloth.

I used Kissaluvs size 0 with Thirsties covers size XS (my daughter was 6lbs. 9 oz. when she was born). We also have BumGenius All in One Deluxe size XS. She's 2 months now and weighs a little over 10 lbs. She's still using her Kissaluvs and thirsties and we've now started to use the BumGenius one size All in One pocket diapers that we recently ordered. The BumGenius Deluxe size XS is on their last leg. In the next couple weeks, my daughter will outgrow them. My husband is a big fan of the Kissaluvs because it's a great fit (my daughter is skinny so it really covers well around her legs to prevent leaks.) I like the BumG's because it's more absorbent and you don't need a separate cover (my lil' one is a heavy wetter.)

Personally, I wouldn't use the bumG's AIO one size on a newborn. It's too bulky and there's no way it would have fitted my daughter. I guess it depends on how big your baby is. I did order prefolds, but thank goodness I didn't order too many. I'm not a fan.

By the way, we've been cloth diapering since my daughter was 2 weeks old. We would've started day 1, but I had an unplanned C-section and the extra load of laundry was just too much at the time so we used the disposables that someone gave us from the baby shower.
