Newborn sized diapers

Whats your favorite? I'm not a fan of prefolds and my babies tend to be really skinny and wear the newborn sized diapers for several months. I didn't start CDing until #1 was 19 months and #2 was about 3/12 months. Both girls used the Huggies sized N diapers for 2-3 months and the size 1 diapers until about 4-5 months, they just are long and skinny. So I don't feel it would be a waste to buy that size, I am just interested in what others have tried since we want to CD #3 from birth. Thanks!

I know you said you are not a fan of them but IMO you will not get a better fit on a tiny / skinny/ petite baby with anything but a prefold. The important thing about using a prefold is to make sure it is the right size, if you have a tiny little newborn use a newborn or preemie sized prefold other wise you have to fold it down and figure out the right rise and it's bulky, and a pain in the butt, but if you use the right size with a snappi it is actually faster to get on then a fitted is and way less bulky. Plus you can always use the tiny prefolds as doublers later on and they're cheap so it's no big deal if you get meconium stains. We have some very small DSQ fitted diapers that I love too (buddi diapers you can get them used from diaper services that use them, I get them from tidytushees.ca for $3 a piece) but I will be taking the prefolds to the hospital when #3 is born in June since I know for sure they will fit and I wont cry if I lose any.

Mother Ease makes a diaper called Sandy's. I used their newborn size for quite awhile. They were my favourite newborn diaper for my lean little guy.

Hi! :) I know you said you don't like prefolds, but in case someone else is browsing this discussion and wondering about prefolds on newborns - I had a skinny baby too and used GMD newborn size prefolds on him with x-small size Thirsties covers. They worked great and fit him for about 2 mos. before I moved him up to the next size prefold. The GMD prefolds are really nice cos they're very fluffy and absorbant and the sizes make them easy to throw in a cover without a lot of fuss. Just my 2 cents :)

After just changing my 2 month old's diaper, I realized I left one out! It's not a newborn sized diaper, and I didn't love the fit on my son until a couple weeks ago (he was about 12 pounds then...) but the one-size Nifty Nappies that Vilate (our moderator here) makes really are remarkable. They no longer fit my 36 pound 2 year old, but they did until 3 months ago or so. And they are now fitting my newbie very well. They're super soft and absorbent and come with a doubler (which I'm not using on the baby yet but came in handy when I was using them on my older son...) I think her prices just went up, so I can't say how much you'd spend on a Nifty Nappy, but they do fit for a very, VERY long time. For your babies, you might use them from about 2 or 3 months until potty training if your kids remain slim. (My toddler is husky...) And I also forgot to tell you how much I love Nikky and Niji diaper covers. They are Japanese and I buy them from http://babyworks.com. They don't come in adorable colors (white only) but are cotton and waterproof and breathable and fit GREAT over Nifty Nappies or the thirsties fab fitteds. To fit over the Kissaluvs, you have to size up...but I do that and it works great. Sorry to ramble on so much! I love chatting cloth!!! :)

I have huge babies (10 lb 4 oz and 9 lb 9 oz) and I still found it valuable and handy to have newborn sized dipes. At their sizes, my guys only wore their newby-sizers about a month, but I'll use them again with the next babe. I just despise the fit of a one-size diaper on a little baby. It's so bulky plus it's a huge pain getting them snapped to the right rise setting and then stuffing the pockets and such...

I'm also not a huge fan of investing in just one style of diaper. I like having a big variety and end up using different diapers for different things. The newborn dipes I love are:

For fitteds, (that need a cover) I think Kissaluvs size 0 and Thirsties Fab Fitteds x-small are IDEAL! The Kissaluvs have an umbilical snap down in front that is so nice, but can be a bit bulky even in the size 0, and especially if your kiddos are thin. The fab fitteds are a bit trimmer, and EXTREMELY soft, but no umbilical snap down. I like having both. The kissaluvs tended to be what I used for nighttimes, with a wool soaker cover or a Thirsties wrap in size x-small.

For pocket dipes, I found that I ADORED Fuzzi Bunz in the x-small (or newborn) size and also the Blueberry mini. The fuzzi bunz newborn fit my boys for about a month before I had to upgrade them to size small diapers. But it sounds like for your little ones, they will fit a lot longer. You may want to get some kind of hemp liner to put in them, because I noticed toward the end of the month that my son was starting to pee more than the diaper could hold (it comes with such a tiny insert...) even though the diaper still fit him... The blueberry minis are on the spendy side (around $20 each) but I just love them for their absorbency (a microfiber AND hemp insert) and trimness. The fuzzi bunz and blueberry diapers tended to be what we used for out and about, or if Daddy or someone else was going to change a diaper.

Also, I recently stumbled upon a new style of diaper from Thirsties that I'm definitely going to buy for my next baby. It's a pocket diaper that comes in 2 sizes to fit an age range from birth to potty training at about 40 pounds. My older son, who will be 2 in April is outgrowing typical "one-size" diapers and he's just not quite ready to potty train. These thirsties diapers (called Thirsties Duo) fit newborns better with the smaller size and fit toddlers better with the larger size. Then they still have snaps to adjust the rise within each diaper's size range. You can read more about that diaper at http://www.thirstiesbaby.com/

I buy all my cloth diaper stuff from either http://babyworks.com or http://kellyscloset.com and between the two of them they carry all these items. I've also written about cloth diapers a LOT on my blog at http://secretmommy.blogspot.com

Good luck and have fun!!!!!!!
