My firstborn is 10 weeks old. We've been using cloth successfully everyday. We use prefolds, thirsties covers, bummis WW covers, and BG's when out and about. I am looking into the next size prefolds and covers and I am wondering what diaper system is going to work best when we introduce solids in the coming months. And what will work best as he starts to sleep through the night (hopefully..haha) Right now he is BF. Should I buy the next size prefolds, or should I go with fitteds, or invest in more AIO/Pockets?

Well, i think the issue is that my son is 2.5 years and the pee is just no longer containable at night. If he can pee through 12 layers of bamboo fleece, then...good golly.

We decided to just do the nighttime pull up (gag), but we figure...it's one a day. Not ideal, but they do soak up the pee better. I might try a stripping to make sure it's not an absorbency issue, but the insert is coming out ridiculously soaked...SOOOOOO heavy.

Thanks for the ideas though! I'll keep these things in mind as baby #2 is due in a few months. Diapering begins AGAIN! :o)

For overnight the BG 3.0 one size with both inserts, they work great for us. My son is 7 months and a very heavy wetter. For day use we have a mix of Fuzzi Bunz, BG, and prefolds

i will suggest going with an one size fits all fitted like mine.  I think they are the most ecomomic way to go.  especially if you plan on having more little ones.  I would also suggest not going with an AIO.  they aren't breathable and your baby is more prone to rashes.  you can chekc out my diapering info web page here.  http://www.niftynappybyvilate.weebly.com

go fitted and wool!

we use BGs OS for overnight. i bought some bamboo cloth and sewed my own stuffers so i could get max absorbency. we're up to 12 layers now. whenever we've used a sposie (sitter, etc.) for overnight, he totally leaks everywhere, so we're big believers in the bamboo. :o)

i personally love www.greenmountaindiapers.com for prefolds. their medium size is nice and wide and we used them until our son was over a year old. we stuck to prefolds for the most part and used pockets for going out, naps, and nighttime.

for solids, we used a flushable liner or fleece liner. that really helps!

Bamboo or hemp fitteds are a great option for nighttime. we use pockets with two insets for my son at night also. BG's have suedecloth against baby and the poo doesn't stick in suedecloth so that's great for the sticky food poo. on a side note:  i'm not being preachy so take this for what it's worth to you but La leche league recommends starting solids at about the 7-9th month so you could save yourself months of gross diapers if you hold off a little bit! anyway : i am very happy with my stash of pockets and fitteds. they just rock!!!

I use a mish mash of pockets and fitteds with covers!!  I used prefolds with 3 children and was amazed at all the choices out there!!!  With my 4th I went on a crazy try it all spree and I still stick with pockets for my husband cuz he thinks they are simple (and they are)  But I LOVE fitteds.  You can get so many cute patterns and when they are little you barely need to cover them, just change them alot!!  I love that they are all cotton or bamboo or whatever natural and breathable.  I would just try a few different things and see what makes you smile.

I love cd'ing!!!

I've used bumGenius 3.0 pockets with my son for nighttime ever since we switched to cloth diapers when he was 4 months. In that time (he'll be a year this month) we've only had a single urine leak and that was a night he slept 12 1/2 hours. I use both size inserts that come with the 3.0 for nighttime use and it works perfectly for us.

I was a big fan of prefolds and covers until my son started getting super squirmy on the changing table, which was about 9 months. Then I started buying more and more pockets. (I prefer pockets to all-in-ones.) I also prefer pockets because the fleece lining seems to NEVER stain and the solid-food-fed-baby pooh just "rolls" right off, kinda like a really gross fruit roll-up.

So my summary advice would be that even tho I like prefolds, I found pockets (or AIO) to be a much better solution for my older baby for fit/ease of getting on/and leak control... HTH!!! :)

I just broke done and went with FB's OS diapers. I did get several Thirsties Fab'd and covers because I really like those. My DD is 4.5 months and just growing out of the small Happy Heiny's. I loved those.

Right now we are using Thirsties AIO's with a hemp insert at night.
