Night time diapering

I am having difficulty with the night time diapering. My son still breast feeds at night so in turn he wets a lot at night. I am currently using a pocket diaper stuffed with a fleece insert and a prefold. I change him once in the middle of the night and he is usually soaking. I've taken to using a nylon cover over all of this. He has one fat bottom :)
I'm wondering what other cloth diapering mamas are having success with. I was using disposables because they are so easy, but I don't want to.
What do you suggest?

I wish my almost two yr old woke up dry in the morning!! Its only happened once :D!! I use lollidoo microfiber pocket stuffed with a microfiber towel and a hemp doubler insert. I have been a huge user of wool for yrs and always hated that the girls couldnt wear the cute pj's that they got so I switched to fleece and solved that problem. Wool soakers have also done wonders over fitteds with bamboo fleece doublers

Wow! I can't believe all the different methods! I'll go ahead and add mine. All I have is Bumgenius so I use the regular insert with 2 doublers on the inside. This worked when he nursed every hour for a short time. I say, stuff as many in as you need for nighttime use! Also, maybe try a wool soaker. I'd be willing to make you one for the cost of yarn as I would like start selling and be a WAHM in the near future.

We use the Aristocrats Wool Soakers with two Chinese Prefolds at night for my twin sons (15 months). They are bulletproof - no leaks whatsoever! I was hesitant to buy the Wool Soakers because of the price but I would never go back to anything else at night now!

I saw it in a couple previous responses, but I tried several things before finding our right combination.....Thirsties pocket/AIO with a Super-Do insert. The Super-Do's are made specifically for heavy wetters. They're expensive, but I have managed to find all mine used on DiaperSwappers.com.

Heavy-duty fitted with a fleece cover, or a BumGenius stuffed with a GAD 4-layer hemp insert, BG insert, and a folded microfiber towel.

Drybees nighttime fleece pocket stuffed with a fleece liner and a prefold with a wool cover has been awesome for us. Most days even though my kids have obviously peed they are completely dry to the touch

We use a hemp fitted with a booster and PUL cover for our almost 2 year old and its so much better than when we were using pockets! He leaked everywhere with pockets so I don't use them at all anymore. He still can leak abit if hes had alot to drink so I've got a heavy woolen jersey I'll be making into a cover like Sierra and hopefully that'll get that extra little bit of pee :)

mary has some good ideas.

i have had great luck with pockets (like HH or BG but i make them myself) stuffed with two microfiber inserts.

also i have these really thick bamboo fitteds and a wool cover. the combo is bullet proof! wool is SOOOOOO great. i shrunk a sweater by washing it in HOT and putting it in the dryer and then and made a cover and it never leaks. you can find a bunch of tutorials on how to make one if you google recycled sweater diaper cover, or butt sweater, or sew wool soaker. and you only have too wash the wool once in a while or if it gets poo on it so it's not like this hard thing to use. very easy actually! i would investigate a wool cover and bamboo fitted.

so i use my fitted diapers that i make and sell that are Organic hemp and bamboo and then a wool cover over that! This is a bullet proof system for us! We have not had one leak since we started using this system! you can chekc out more wool info on my web page http://www.niftynappybyvilate.weebly.com

good luck!

I had the same problem! Everyone has a different set-up, but our BEST solution was a Drybees fleece pocket diaper stuffed with a Knickernappies Super-Do insert. I have a boy, and I don't even have to fold it down in the front. We stick him in that at bedtime, he's good for 12 hours, and is dry in the morning (but, MY, one soaked insert!) I bought it from a lady who also swore by it, so it's worked for more than one baby. It does make him look like a baby stuffed in an oversized piece of fruit, but not one leak in over a month.

Check it out at: http://www.luvaboos.com/store/WsDefault....

Hope this helps!

If you are using pocket diapers, I would recommend trying a hemp or bamboo doubler under the microfiber insert, the microfiber absorbs quickly and the hemp/bamboo holds a lot of pee. If one doubler is not enough try 2, I suspect you'll need two of them...

If you use prefolds, try 1 (or 2) hemp or bamboo doubler, under your prefold with a wool soaker instead of a plastic cover. The wool soakers are washed with Lanolin soap about every 2 weeks, lay them flat to dry, air them out when not in use during the day. The baby may feel slightly damp to the touch through the wool, but will not get wet enough to wet clothing or a bed. Wool is super absorbent and a natural antiseptic. You can knit your own soaker (out of 100% wool) and Lanolize it, or buy one. Aristocrats are very popular, but I loved my sugar peas soaker the best!

I work at a cloth diaper store and this seems to work for most babies.

Stick with the cloth if you can overnight as many babies start waking up dry in the morning around a year old... they don't like sleeping in pee, go figure. When my daughter started to do this I would take her to the potty first thing in the morning and she'd go pee right away. And she was a super duper huge pee-er overnight before this. I had to use both of the suggestions I have made above, and she stopped leaking, but had a 5 pound diaper of pee in the morning!

The only type of diaper we've had success with our son being dry is using a prefold with either a hemp or bamboo doubler with a wool soaker cover. The wool has been the best decision we've made and I'm looking into getting some wool covers to use during the day because they're wonderful!! Yes they're a little more expensive, but they're really easy to care for and they're super soft.

I've had a couple customers really like two different options:
The Thirsties Pocket All In One with a Super Do Insert (microfiber and fleece insert, it is awesome!!!) or the Dry Bees fleece with a Super Do Insert. Both of those combinations have worked great for quite a few people now!

I have been using Haute pockets with and extra insert, the infant insert, and the regular insert.. It is the ONLY think that works for us!

We use a pocket diaper (thirsties) stuffed with a prefold, then put the plastic pants on over the top. We have been using this for a few weeks and have not had any leaks.

We've now tried the BumGenius with the main insert and the Little Weeds hemp insert but no Staccinator - no leaks! She nursed every hour so I know she was putting it to the test!

My son peed through EVERY diaper I tried (including disposables). But I now use the BumGenius OS at night with both the inserts it comes it and no more leaks! And he is in the diaper for 12 hours. I highly recommend this as a nighttime diaper. He wakes up nice and dry too

We use a pre-fold bikini-twisted with a Snappi, then put a Luke's Drawer's one size Fitted diaper over that, and finish with a LiteWrap cover. This has been the magic combo for us so far! Good luck!

I've been using the hemp in a trifold inside the Staccinator. However, lately I've been experimenting with BumGenius and using the hemp and the larger insert that comes with it, then putting it all in the Staccinator. I am thinking that may be overkill. With both of those, I may not need the Staccinator at all. I am going to first try without the BG insert, then try with the insert but without the cover.

Thanks. I will check the web site out. DO you use the hemp insert with a pocket diaper or with just a cover?

My daughter is a super soaker too. I'm finding a hemp insert (Little Weeds) and the Staccinator cover always do the trick.

www.jilliansdrawers.com has a lot of great info on it

Wow, that's a lot of pee! So far a pocket diaper with the insert and a doubler is working for me but a friend uses 2 regular prefolds (one pinned and the other trifolded) with a large cover and then a nylon cover over that. It works for her 18 month old.
