Rash with Fuzzi Bunz...

I'm going nuts. My son is 9 1/2 months old and has been exclusively in Fuzzi Bunz since he was about 3 weeks old. Never had a problem with rashes. All of a sudden, about 3 weeks ago, he got this nasty red rash with bumps on his penis. I tried hard to get rid of it while still in the FBs, but I finally had to give in, get him disposables (ugh) and fight it with cream. While he was in the disposables, I stripped the Fuzzi Bunz. So, after about a week of being back in the FBs, he's got the nasty rash starting up again! What's going on? Has anyone run into bad rashes all of sudden and what to do???

I do try to give him plenty of air time, but what else can I do? And is it the diapers?

You know, my son had a mild rash on the skin right above his penis. It lasted for about a week before we took him to the doctor to see if maybe it was something more serious. All the doctor said was that it was an ammonia-related rash and to put cortisone cream on it 2-3 times a day until it goes away. We did this and while we were doing it we put him in disposables and it went away. So now he's back in cloth and doing fine. He has very sensitive skin,  so he stills gets a little red from time to time but overall he's ok and it never seems to bother him.

Thanks all...the rash seems to be clearing up.  Yes, Jennifer, he is teething like mad, I hadn't thought of that!  Now that the spring is upon us, I'm planning on sunning my diapers.  Hope to get rid of the few poopy stains that have popped up since we started solids...:o)

We recently went through a time with diaper rash, so I rinsed and rinsed and rinsed. I use Charlie's Soap and my wee one has never had any problems. Is he cutting any teeth because teething alone can cause crazy diaper rash that lasts well beyond three days and not be yeast related.

I line dry and sun all of my diapers.

Oh, and just remembered, my doc also told me any rash that lasts more than 3 days is yeast related.....

I was just re-reading your post...what's new in his diet? maybe it's caused by food or juice additives....my son is sensitive to red 5 in fruit punch and would always get a nasty rash after drinking it...took me forever to figure it out. Maybe to much juice or something that is causing him to poo alot, or change the acidity in his urine- which can also lead to rashes.

Kids, just when you think you have them figured out they throw you a curve ball....

I would try switching my detergents, I've heard that Charlies can cause burns if it's not washed out enough (so maybe an extra rinse and less soap might help too). Drying on hot does nothing for absorbency- they don't want people to do it because they claim it will wear the PUL more, however PUL was actually designed for hospital use, and many many other PUL diapers advise on drying on hot because it helps to actually sanitize the diaper. OILS are a no no for any diaper w/fleece lining because it can cause liquids to repel, plus the oils will build up and cause stink issues.

So, I would definitely try a different detergent- like Allens. And use just a tiny bit, and add an extra rinse or two- just to make sure all soap residue gets out of there.

Oh, and if it was yeast, it could have cleared up quickly w/otc creams if it wasn't really bad yet- which could explain why it came back too...you could try some lotromin cream (my doc suggested that) and use a fleece liner in your fbs to protect the diaper (i've done this w/o problems too) just get some fleece from the store (or and old fleece shirt) and cut to the shape/size of a panty liner...put on cream, cover bum w/fleece put on diaper...

Nope, I've been using Charlie's Soap on all my laundry since we got the Fuzzi Bunz.  If it was a yeast infection, I don't think it would have cleared up as well with the OTC diaper cream, right?  I'd hate to have to go buy a whole new set of cloth!  I will try the yogurt, though.  According to Fuzzi Bunz website, I shouldn't dry them on hot, it can affect the absorbency...it also says not to use tea tree oil in the wash because it could cause them to become repellent to liquids.  *sigh*  I'll think about all your suggestions and hopefully I'll figure something out!  Thanks!

If his rash was a yeast infection, good luck. I had a heck of a time getting our diapers stripped enough when my son broke out w/yeast while using FB's. Once we got things cleared up, I switched to bamboo diapers (http://bamboobums.com), no major problems since (and when a little rash flairs up I can actually use cream w/thhttp://apps.facebook.com/circleofmoms/th... diapers). I think my kids have a sensitivity to synthetic fibers in their sensitive areas.

But if he does keep getting this rash, and it is yeast, try introducing some more yogurt to his diet to fight it from with in and strip his diapers every wash (that's what I did) had dry on HOT, it helps to kills residual stuff on the dipes from the wash. Good Luck!

Have you recently changed detergents, stain removers, or fabric softners? Did you rinse all them again? Im trying to come up with different things and this is all I could come up with.

I can buy it at the local walmart, in the herbal section or the pharmacy, Also the local grocery store has it, try that.

Thanks for the suggestions!  Now my next question...where is the easiest place to find tea tree oil?

I would use a few drops of tea tree oil in the wash it is an anti-bacterial and then I would sun the diapers it is a natural bleach ans kills anything left behind!    Good luck
