I have an 11 month old that I have always used cloth with. lately I've been feeling like the diapers still smell like urine even after 2 washes (with extra rinses) and the dryer. I use baking soda and a dye-free detergent. Any other suggestions?

If you use baking soda in the wash or soak, make sure to use vinegar in the rinse, This will help restore the pH of the cloth diapers. Otherwise your baby may end up with diaper rash.

I used baking soda and it wasnt working. Now I use peroxide with my detergent and I have no smells. I just put it in with my soak and my wash. At least 1/2 cup per load

Rockin' Green! http://www.charmingcherubs.com/laundry-d...
My diapers don't stink anymore. I was using Allen's, then Kirkland Free & Clear, then Trader Joes, then Seventh Gen...they all made my dipes STINK.

Use a little vinegar in the wash.

BumGenius has a odor remover that works really well on my cloth diapers. A couple sprays is all you need... takes the smell right out. You can get it from cottonbabies.com. Good luck!

I like to use a couple drops of Lavender Oil in the rinse and I also put it in a downy ball. Works great for us!

I use Tea Tree oil a few drops to kill the bacterial, and the best way to get rid of the smell is good ol' sunshine! hang them out to dry, It will also bleach off any stains!

Yeah, what she said! I use about a 1/4 cup of vinegar in the last rinse cycle every load and it keeps any urine smell at bay. Stripping is also a good idea. If you don't have Dawn, I've stripped my diapers by adding boiling water to my wash (I use an electric kettle to heat the water quickly) to get it real nice and hot, add a little oxyclean with your regular detergent and then rinse, rinse, rinse. On the final rinse cycle, add that vinegar and you should be good to go!

You ca also try some vinegar in a Downy Ball (if you have one) or pour it into the rinse cycle, when you would normally add fabric softener. It helps to take that urine and musty smell out. And line dry in the sun-it will act as a natural bleach and take out any other lingering smells. And how do you store them after you change the baby? Wet or dry pail? That can affect it if they sit too long.

There are two things I can think of that it could be, build up or maybe not enough detergent. For build up, I recommend stripping your diapers by washing them on hot with a few squirts of Dawn dish soap. Wash them until there are no more bubbles in the rinse cycle. I hope that helps solve your problem!
