i've recently just switched to cloth diapering on my 18 month old and have been trying different brands out in preparation for baby #2 next month..... i love the cloth diapers but the only real leaking issue i am having is at the top front of all of them. i point him down, fasten the diaper as tight as possible but it seems that no matter what within his first pee he gets leaking up at the top soaking the waist band of his pants. just curious if anyone else has had this issue and what you did to solve it.....

Sounds like a fit issue, and possibly a repelling issue.

The wasitband needs to be tight enough that is lays flat against babies tummy without gaping but not so tight that the top edge rolls out.

When the pocket diapers leak are the inserts really wet? if not you may have buildup on the fleece or suede inner layer that is causing the liquid to pool on top of the diaper and then leak out. Did you buy the diapers new? have you ever used diaper creams on your son while he was wearing them or fabric softener in your dryer even with your other clothes? Creams, fabric softener and detergent build up can cause the diapers to repel liquid. If the fit doesn't seem to be the issue or the pocket inserts are not soaked I would strip the diapers, you can use a small squirt of dawn in a top loader washer and then rinse untill there are no bubbles or you can use my new favorite RLR. I just stripped my diapers with RLR and posted about it on my blog.

if stripping doesn't help then it could just be that the diapers you have are not a good fit for your son, sometimes you have to use something else for a month or so until baby gains some chub or loses some. HTH

What kind of diapers and covers are you using, if you are using flats or prefolds how are you folding them? It all depends on what you are using.

When you fold your diapers do you fold an inch section downwards in the front before pinning them? I have a girl and use cloth diapers....I was having trouble with her leaking up and out in the front when she started crawling and rolling around.....if you haven't tried it that way, it might help!?
