all of our cotton and hemp prefolds are stained right now from my 3.5 month old's bright yellow breastfed poop. I live in Canada where it's not exactly bright and sunny out these days. Is there another way of getting the stains out than sunning them since tha'ts not really an option for the next few months? I have this natural bleach alternative (kind of like oxyclean). Should I try soaking them in that? I still use them but it's kind of gross looking I find. I'd like them to be their original cream colour again. Thanks:)

Ditto to the sun thing, as long as the diapers see the sun even if it is way col the sun will bleach the stains! I would do the sun thing, and then bring them in when the sun goes away.

Try borax ad vinegar when you wash 'em.

i live in canada too, I stilll put my diapers outside to dry in this weather, you just need to bring them in when the sun goes down to thaw them out but they should be dry, and as long as you get them outside early enough they should get enough sun.

I think as long as it is sunny, the snow and cold should not deter sunning out the stains. In fact, I bet the snow reflecting the sun would just add an extra boost. I would put them out when it is sunny, if they freeze, pop them in the dryer afterward!

I'm still putting mine outside on the line. Here in Ohio its about 30-40 degrees about now. So yes I do sometimes end up with diapercicles. A trip thru the dryer cures that. The only thing I do different in the cold is that instead of hanging everything out, I only hang out the stained stuff - oh and I wear gloves! I've tried oxyclean - but haven't soaked for that long - I'll have to try it again with a longer soak.

I have used oxy clean on mine too.. I found the stains didnt dissapear completely.. but the sun does wonders so I would do the outside too.. to try to remove the stains completley

I have used generic Oxy on mine and it seems to help. Do the cold prerinse, then a hot soak for 1/2-3hrswith a scoop or more of the oxy (some people recommend 2-3 scoops), then your regular wash and an extra rinse. I know it is a few more steps but it does help. Also have heard you can use pure lemon juice (not sure how that works). I am seriously considering putting mine out on the line even in this freezing cold for a full day then bringing them in to thaw and dry inside. Supposedly even if they freeze the sun will help. Hope some of this helps.
