what are the steps people are using when using cloth diapers? I usually wash them quickly in the tub with some soap then soak them in there for a little bit then wring them out and let them dry maybe over night in the bathroom then try to wash them the next morning. but sometimes they smell and i was wondering what other moms/dads do with them from taking them off there babes to washing them. please send any suggestions over....thanks

for the smells i use a few drops of tea tree oil in the wash and then sun dry them the sun bleaches the stains out and helps kill the bacteria that makes the smells!  I have a cloth diaper webpage where I have tons on info you can check it out.  http://www.niftynappybyvilate.weebly.com

I use AIO and AI2s and I rinse every diaper and liner/booster as it comes off my boy and hang them over the edge of a pail, then I wash them every night, the liners in a cold wash and the diapers in a warm wash with a cold rinse.
I have tried dry pailing and omg they smelled so bad and my boy is only BF and 4mths old!
Yuck.

I wash every other day. All diapers go into a dry pail. I don't rinse any of them and never have a smell. I wipe off the poop into the toilet and that does the trick for us.

I put dirty diapers in Whammies wet bags that just hang by our changing table (and one by our slop sink in the basement where we rinse out the BM diapers).  There is a little pad inside for essential oil (we use tea tree) to ward off any smells.  One thing I have read is that you shouldn't let BM diapers dry before washing them.  The wetter they stay before washing, the better.  We wash them every other day all on their own.

I throw my dirty diapers in pailbag that actually just hangs from the door knob of the laundry room.  I make sure the poopy diapers are rinsed well and then in the bag they go. My diaper stash is large enough that I can go 2-3 days before washing.  They NEVER get washed with anything else. It is strictly a diaper only wash. Hope that helps!

Quoting Dawn:

I wash on a delicate (cold) cycle first with a little detergent, then a hot cycle. Then throw them in the dryer. If you are hand washing, God bless you, but you need to use very hot water to get them clean. You may have to use gloves to protect your hands. If the smell is still there, the diapers may need to be stripped.

I mean more of what do you do with the diapers once you've changed the baby. Do you throw them in a bucket with or without water do you wash them all at the end of the day do you wash them out after you take them off so they don;t smell as bad and let them air dry until you wash them, fo you wash only them or with other of the babies clothes etc. Thanks

We rinse off messy ones in cold water and hang them to dry until we wash them. In the wash we do a cold prewash and then a HOT, heavy cycle set on the highest water level. We use Charlie's soap. We have also stripped them twice. We've never had an issue with our prefolds smelling. Good luck!
