How do you "strip" your cloth diapers? I use Fuzzibunz pocket diapers and cloth wipes.

Rinse diapers in Hot water twice on large load setting. Then wash use normal amount (1/4 of the recommended amount) of safe detergent (many detergents are not clean rinsing - very important to use these with diapers. See here for a list http://www.bummis.com/media/detergent-in...). If you can hang them outside to dry in the wind and sun a few times that really helps too. Then I just throw them in the dryer for a few minutes to soften them up (no fabric softener)

Here are some simple instructions as well as a few suggested additives you can use to help get the odors out.

In short, you'll do the following:

1: Rinse Cold with no detergent (to remove stinkies)

2: Wash hot with detergent (to clean diapers)

3: Rinse hot with no detergent (to strip detergent residue) - you can use an additive here if you wish. Good additives to use are distilled vinegar (1 cup), Blue Dawn liquid soap (1 tablespoon), Baking Soda (1/2 cup), Oxyclean (2 scoops). If you don't have a 'hot rinse' option on your washer, run a 'hot wash' cycle instead.

4. Repeat step 3, checking midway through the cycle for soap bubbles. Keep repeating until you have no soap bubbles in your agitation cycle. Then dry as usual.

Some Watchouts:

1. vinegar works well but you should use it sparingly as overuse can break down the PUL in your diapers. also note that vinegar is not recommended if you have hard water. if you do have hard water, try Dawn or RLR as an additive instead

2. if you're a 'bleach' kinda gal - also use this sparingly as overuse can cause the PUL in your diapers to breakdown

3. if you're trying to strip diaper rash cream out of your diapers, you're going to need to hand scrub each one first with a detergent paste before attempting to strip. here are some simple instructions for making that paste.
